  1. This made my game play so much better but now I have a problem. When I try to join any multiplayer game it will load and get through the progress bar, then it just crashes right to WMR. Is this happening to anyone else? How do you fix this?
  2. This worked. I had to close the oculus programs through task manager. But now when i run DCS from the shortcut, it loads into VR. Task manager confirms that Steamvr is not loaded at all, and dcs shows it's also using opencomposit. It must be working.
  3. Ok, so you have the steam version of this game? How do you launch the game? I don't have a "Launch in Openxr mode" option, do you just select open steam edition or select open steamvr version? Did this even work to help improve your game? I assume you have the steam version since you said you re-downloaded everything from steam.
  4. I guess I just need to check something first. I can't get clean/repair to work. My version of DCS World was purchased on Steam. This explains how to get SteamVR out of the picture, so am I correct to assume the standalone version also used steamvr? Is this OpenXR not actually compatible with the steam version of this game and all of you that have successfully gotten this to work are all on stand alone? Has anyone that purchased this game on steam gotten this openxr to work? I can't figure out how to re-calibrate my headset because it's not in this guide so I'll have to look up another tutorial just to figure that out. But, how would I even launch the game? I used to load WMR and in vr I would open steam and click on "Launch steamvr in steam VR Mode" There is no Openxr mode listed, there is only play dcs world steam edition, launch steamvr and launch oculusvr. So does this not even work with this version of DCS or do I have to create a desktop shortcut from the exe and edit the command line or something?
  5. I really want to give this a try but I get stuck right at the beginning. I can not clean or repair DCS World. Is this because I bought the game on Steam? When i try to repair using that Skatezilla program, it says the updater is corrupt. So I downloaded an updater directly from ed and that one doesn't work either, it says it "can't exactly find the install folder" and when I confirm it is correct it doesn't do anything, then the Repair option never becomes available. Am I supposed to go into steam and "Verify integrity of game files" instead of repair/clean? If not, do I really have to re-install nearly 200 gigs just to test this mod? Why can't it just have an install script like normal programs? Does this forum have a search function that works on a per thread basis? This thread is already 40+ pages deep and I'd like to search for "Can not clean"
  6. If I recall the only things special were running it as admin and I think you were supposed to backup a lua file before you start because there's a modified file that allows the saving of progress for the campaign, but there's some sort of warning about vulnerability so you would want to switch the LUA file back to the original one if you play online multiplayer on public servers.
  7. I have not read through the thread but I'm certain my suggestion will have been mentioned several times. I would say DCS Liberation. It's like a persistent campaign with front lines that move, you can play single or multi player, it has a nice GUI to setup scenerios. Prior to this, I would use DCS like a sandbox game, just fly around shooting down planes and blowing up ground targets. I'd get bored and turn it off quickly. Liberation brings pushing enemy lines and capturing bases into it and it saves progress as you go. It makes this awesome sandbox sim into a game.
  8. I honestly don't believe it's going to provide much of a noticeable difference. That 3090 card is built for workstations, no gaming application is using 24gigs of Vram right now. Maybe in the future but I doubt anytime soon, no dev is going to devote time to a feature for a demographic of almost none since only enthusiasts pay upwards of $700+ for video cards. I was going to get the 3080 but the damn thing sold out in seconds, the same thing happened to that 3090 card. I'd be a fool to think the same thing won't happen with the 3070 card. The unprecedented demand Nvidia says they were not expecting are opportunists using bots to snag everything up and resale for a ripoff on the secondary marked, so I'll just upgrade this old ass 1070 to a 2080 and start saving for a 3080 again. By the time stock stabilizes, I'll have either saved the money again or ED will have completed the upgrade to Vulkan, either way those 3000 series cards won't be available anytime soon.
  9. Really? Having to wait an additional day or two for a publishers game to become available on a 3rd party system to which they have no control is akin to being treated as a second class citizen?
  10. Steam Surcharge? Are you paying a fee to USE steam?
  11. Can you ask them probing questions like "Do we have to wait for our point of contact to come back from his/her vacation before you approve this?"
  12. Come on Steam, hurry up and approve this so we can buy it. I hope they don't have to wait for their point of contact to get back from vacation before it goes up.
  13. Why would you want this if you already have Touch Controllers on the Rift? Is it because it's convenient since it's on a ring finger so you don't have to grab an entire controller? It seems like it would be easier to use since most people are going to play this game with a Hotas and if it's on a ring finger you wouldn't have to try and grab an entire controller. Is mouse pointing an issue in VR? I thought it was fine with touch and the pointer system. Either way I think you are making an incredibly cool peripheral, I personally can't justify the cost because the only place I might actually use it is in this game and my existing controllers can probably already do what your device does...
  14. Are they working on the engine as we speak? Or is Vulkan already implemented into the current engine? I was under the impression that DCS was on a really old outdated engine and the switch to Vulkan would be a game changer. I don't notice a difference at all since I started playing it.
  15. Thanks for the help everyone. Steam said All I have to do is go to re-install the game and point to the directory it's already installed on and it'll just re-verify everything. The problem is that this game is so huge it takes it's on dedicated hard drive. I only bought a puny 250 GB SSD. So when I try to point to it, it doesn't pass because there's not enough room left on the drive to do the install even though it's not going to install anything. This all became such a huge pain in the ass, I just erased the entire DCS folder and re-downloaded it. It took a while, but not too long. By the time it all finally got installed and updated, I was too exhausted to even play the game. I still haven't loaded it, I just hope steam doesn't uninstall it again. I'll probably get on this weekend, I forgot how much time flight simming takes...
  16. That wasn't released yet? I remember seeing it being mentioned on facebook probably over a year ago. This, The F14, now the F16! I want to buy it all.
  17. I completely agree. I pretty much stopped playing any campaigns or missions but Through the inferno because the missions take forever and something always comes up. So I can only really play a quick online game or a sand box style game like Through the Inferno.
  18. So does this mean that ED is NOT going to use Vulcan? If not are they working on a new engine that is more modern? Needing 32 gigs of ram in any situation is ridiculous for a game.
  19. Thanks for the replies everyone, yes the files are all physically still on the hard drive. I went to manage folders and the folder that had DCS was no longer there, so I went to add it and it says this: ""selected drive already has a steam library folder. Steam will manage multiple game installs in a single folder for you" and it doesn't do anything to the game in steam itself. Did steam just randomly remove the existing folder from that area so steam no longer knows where to look for DCS? How and why does this even happen? I certainly did not go in there and remove it myself, I didn't even know how to do it before I posted this. I understand it's showing uninstalled because it doesn't know what path to look in for the installed game, is there an easy way to point to it? Why is it giving me a warning saying there's already a steam folder, then it doesn't even add the directory? Is the only way to fix this really to wast all that bandwidth and re-download all 132 gigs of data again? It's not worth it if that's what I have to do.
  20. Does DCS Uninstall itself after a period of time on steam? I haven't played it since 9/2/18. Steam doesn't have a "play" button, it has an "Install" button, but my game is physically installed on one of my drives, it is still physically there. Why is steam not seeing it as installed? When I try to click on install, it tells me I have to download this huge file that is larger than the hard drive space I have. How do I force it to see that the game is already there, I don't want to download 100's of gigs again when it's already on my hard drive. I installed it on steam and it worked well enough for me to put 400 hours on it, I just took a break and now it doesn't work. What happened?
  21. I can never really see the missiles, I can see the plum of smoke when they launch. I use the RWR and I have the options set so that it says "Incoming missile 12 o'clock high" etc. So I know what direction it's coming from and I can usually see aircraft on my RWR. I check the radar to see the distance from the aircraft and once I know the distance, I have a general idea of how long it will take for the missile to get to me. I've been shot down a million times so I got used to it. If it's coming from 12 o'clock I know I'm heading right for it, since I know the distance now I just notch the plane on it's side and slowly bank out so the missile bleeds off energy, then I do a hard break while dropping counter measures, split s from there and ease the other direction so I don't lose too much energy. If you do it just right you can get a lock on them and still have the lock when you've dodged the missile. If I do see the missile itself it's usually as it hits my cockpit, surprisingly you can usually tell what kind of missile it was when that happens. For SAMS, I just stay out of range and try not to get into a dogfight near them because I'll probably evade right into their kill zone.
  22. Thank you Sabre-TLA! I know how to use the waypoint system in the F15c, so I'll use that now. But I am so glad you explained how to use the Kneeboard. I play in VR so it's nice to be able to look at the kneeboard instead of through the nose gab on the Oculus Rift to see a print out. Now I can go to the FAM route on the kneeboard and use the waypoints so I know where I am. I'll wait for the F15c to move first now too. I'll try these tools next time I am able to play.
  23. I'm confused about how to fly this mission. First the other F15c didn't taxi out, I followed two other planes and then the F15c followed me. I'm pretty sure he told me to follow him. Once I take off, I pass the race track and bank left, then I head to heading 270 below the altitude it said. Then I lost track of what to do from there. I don't know how to use the kneeboard, I hit k and it only stays up until I stop holding down K. If I hit Shift+K it stays opened. But it's zoomed in to close, how do I zoom out to see the full image in the kneeboard? How do I change pages? The readme says there are extensive docs that I must read for the missions. But I can't find any extensive docs, all I find are a few maps, a bunch of routes and procedures but no instructions clearly labeled on what I'm supposed to do. Since I lose track of the speach in the beginning after heading towards 270 and I don't know how to navigate the Kneeboard I get lost. If I land I fail the mission for not following a path. I have no idea where to go to hit the trigger lists. The voices on the coms come fast and I'm not sitting here taking notes, doesn't DCS have an "objectives" list it keeps track of so you know what the objectives are that I can view? Are the waypoints set up so I can just ignore the voices since they're way to fast and just follow the waypoints to lead me to the fight? I don't even know how to recognize the land marks, I can see the obvious stuff like the race track, but most of it looks like cookie cutter houses. I feel stupid because I can never figure any of these campaigns or missions out, I end up always quitting and loading Through the inferno and fighting random planes that I spawn. I would like to play real levels, but I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Here's an example: I found this in one of the PDFs. It says "NTTR Red Force Departure Routes" and I'm pretty sure this is the script that the voice over is reading but I am not sure. It says "Fly north of FLEX at or below 4,000 Feet MSL and then heading 270" I have no idea what flex is, I understand 4,000 feet. I don't know what MSL means, and I go to heading 270 before reaching 4,000 feet. Then it says "Intercept the LSV I5 DME Arc at or below 8,000 feet MSL and arc south" What? What is LSV I5 DME? Is Arc a manuver? I think I understand the next part, stay below 8,000 feet? and then I assume make another manuver to arc south? So is LSV 15 DME something in the air I'm looking for? Is it something on the ground that I can see on an instrument somewhere that acts as a waypoint or something? I assume it's in a fixed position otherwise I have no idea how far to go before arcing south, but I have no idea what direction the first arc was. Is there a pre requisit I should read somewhere before attempting this again? I'm clearly not understanding common terms and abbreviations that are assumed to be known or I'm missing something I am supposed to read. Please help me. Thank you
  24. No it doesn't appear to be
  25. If you upgrade to at least 16 GB and at least a GTX 1060 6GB, you whould be able to run VR pretty decently. If you've got $700 to blow on a card, get a 1080ti or wait for the new 11 series cards coming out any month now. I have a 1060 6gb, 16 gigs and Oculus Rift. The game looks very much like the video. You'd need one of the high end cards to look just as good as the video though.
