Buckeye Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 Does anyone have any recommendations for where we should be purchasing Honeywell switches (i.e. who has the most competitive prices)? Deadman Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 (edited) With out knowing what type of Honeywell switch your looking for. I would say eBay you can find deals like these three way toggles that makes using milspec switches affordable https://www.ebay.com/itm/362291231430?ul_ref=https%253A%252F%252Frover.ebay.com%252Frover%252F0%252F0%252F0%253Fmpre%253Dhttps%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.ebay.com%25252Fulk%25252Fitm%25252F362291231430%2526rvr_id%253D0%2526rvr_ts%253D1df595291630a9cb13c1fe85fffbbe4c&ul_noapp=true Edited May 1, 2018 by Deadman https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

What type of switch should I be looking for? Is there anything that matters for simpit purposes other than the type of switch I want (ie momentary or constant, and on/off or on/off/on)? Do I need to worry about or seek out any other Specifications on the switches (amps, contact form, etc) or is it pretty much free reign? Thank you in advance for your answer. Doing my best to learn all of this quickly...but there’s a lot to learn haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Rig: SimLab P1X Chassis | Tianhang Base PRO + Tianhang F-16 Grip w/ OTTO Buttons | Custom Throttletek F/A-18C Throttle w/ Hall Sensors + OTTO switches and buttons | Slaw Device RX Viper Pedals w/ Damper Tactile: G-Belt | 2x BK LFE + 1x BK Concert | 2x TST-429 | 1x BST-300EX | 2x BST-1 | 6x 40W Exciters | 2x NX3000D | 2x EPQ304 PC/VR: Somnium VR1 Visionary | 4090 | 12700K
Deadman Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Most switches can be use easly there is at least one tutorial on the form personally I would tell you to use milspec you just can't beat the feel.I use what ever type is used on the sim ie theses three way can be used for any three position switch you would want a momentary for any side there is one. As far as connecting I have been following Han Solo. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

For an replica cockpit of a given DCS plane you should look for ON-OFF, ON-OFF-ON latching type switches (like in Warthog base), Amp/Volt - USB control work with low values, typically less than 1 amp and 5 volts. (ON)-OFF-(ON) momentary type switches (like in X-56 base) is for the case plan make a generic switch panel for various flight games (and "spacecraft's"), due the poor support for switches in most of flight games around, with minded to be be operated with keyboard = press once for turn ON a e.g. light, press again for turn OFF.

Thanks, Sokol. I’ve ordered 20 of the On-Off-On (Persistent) Honeywell’s so far. Going to pick up a few On-Off 2-ways as well as a few On-Off-On Momentary’s as well as soon as I have time to hunt out some good deals on eBay. Pit design will be largely based on the Legacy Hornet pick with work liberties taken to make it VR friendly and versatile enough to work with the Harrier, Viper, Tomcat, etc well enough Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Rig: SimLab P1X Chassis | Tianhang Base PRO + Tianhang F-16 Grip w/ OTTO Buttons | Custom Throttletek F/A-18C Throttle w/ Hall Sensors + OTTO switches and buttons | Slaw Device RX Viper Pedals w/ Damper Tactile: G-Belt | 2x BK LFE + 1x BK Concert | 2x TST-429 | 1x BST-300EX | 2x BST-1 | 6x 40W Exciters | 2x NX3000D | 2x EPQ304 PC/VR: Somnium VR1 Visionary | 4090 | 12700K
Buckeye Posted May 4, 2018 Author Posted May 4, 2018 For something like a Master Arm switch, is it preferable to have a ON-ON switch of ON-OFF switch? I plan to use Bodnar’s and have no idea how to program, if that is useful contest for answering. Thank you! Pavespawn Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 (edited) If you are going to use DCS-BIOS to connect it doesn’t have to be On-On. It only is looking for the “on”side if you will. I have tried to get as many milspec type switches as I can but in reality you don’t need them (they tend to cost more). I have use cheaper switches and then I will swap them out for the actual ones as I find good deals. What I did was go through Deadman’s switch list (since I am building an A-10) and find either the actual switch or a suitable substitute. EDIT: I realized you said bodner boards. That should also be fine. I have found DCS-BIOS and Arduino pretty simple when it comes to just switches. Plus you have the ability to do other stuff like digital readouts or CDU displays. Thank you for the response. I will have to give Arduino + DCS-BIOS another look...mostly BIOS as I need to determine if I am competent enough to work within it (thus far the coding aspect of Arduinos has scared me away haha). As for digital readout and displays, while I find them incredibly cool, I won’t be doing any simply because I will be flying in VR so I can’t see them anyway. Pavespawn Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Gotcha. Well if you choose the DCS-BIOS route you have plenty of help here and for switches it is as easy as cut & paste of commands and insert a pin. Pretty darn easy. I mean I figured it out lol.
