Damage model for ships

In Normandy MP missions, ships are the highest value taregets. But you get points only if the ship sinks. I have repeatedly been frustrated by the near-impossibility to sink an LST or a Samuel Chase-type ship with bombs from a FW-90D or a Bf-109K.

So I set up a SP test mission with one Samuel Chase and two LST's. And even in SP I found it near-impossible to destroy one of the ships.

So I changed my attack aircraft to an A-10C using AGM-65K and GBU-12.

Again, very little success, even though the LGB's were released at 12000 ft. altitude and thus had tremendous kinetic energy. In the end I set up a mission with 2 A-10C, each carrying 5 GBU-10, the heaviest of the LGB's.

It took 9 of the GBU-10 to sink the 3 ships, each ship required 3 LGB's, from an attack altitude of 12,000 ft.

That seems totally unrealistic to me and makes the missions in MP nearly impossible.

My test was in 2.5.1 but I think it would be the same in 2.5.0

To be honest, the damage models of the ships are very crude and basic and in need of a proper overhaul anyway. In fact pretty much all things watercraft is in lots of need for some love from ED.

 

As for the bombs, I've had an AI flight of 4 Bf109s with a single SC500 (I think) each engage a group of 3 LST Mk.2 and the USS Samuel Chase, 2 LST's were sunk so not sure what's going on...
