Ragnar65 Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 Hi guys, I´m wondering what´s the purpose of the little crosshairs on the right upper edge of the HUD. The flightmanual doesn´t say anything concerning this tool... Any hint will be much appreciated. ;-) X-56 HOTAS, TFRP Pedals Modules: F-5E, FC3, F/A-18C, Mirage 2000 C, AV-8BNA, FW-190 A-8, F-16C Viper SystemSpecs: AMD A8-6600K (4x3,9GHz), 16 GB RAM, NVidia GeForce GTX1070 8GB, WIN10 64bit
escaner Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 It is and old style iron sight for backup aiming, as used in the WW1 aircraft or most small arms. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Can´t imagine how to use it for aiming, guess you have to lean over far to the right for that... escaner Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 Yes, just lean to the right until they are both aligned. I read somewhere that nowadays it is also used to check the helmet mounted display alignment, but not really sure about that. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Bullant Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 (edited) It is used as a backup if the HUD goes U/S. It is possible to designate a target location based on the point on the ground visible behind the cross. It is not an iron sight, it designates a point on the ground that can then be engaged in CCRP (AUTO) bombing mode. It is also not used for JHCMS alignment. This seems to cause a lot of confusion, see here for a definitive answer form Wags: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3241993&postcount=28 Edited May 13, 2018 by Bullant Intel i7 13700K @ 5.3 GHz / ASUS TUF Gaming Z490-Plus / 64 Gb G.Skill DDR4-3600 / RTX 4090 / 2TB Kingston KC3000 NVME / Win 10 x64 Pro / Pimax Crystal / WINWING F/A-18 HOTAS A-10C, AJS-37, AV-8B, F-4E, F-5E, F-14, F-15E, F-16, F/A-18C, F-86F, FC3, Christen Eagle 2, FW190D-9, Mosquito, P-47D, P-51D, Spitfire, AH-64D, KA-50, UH-1H Combined Arms, WWII Asset Pack, China Assets Pack, Super Carrier, Falklands Assets Nevada, Normandy, Persian Gulf, The Channel, Syria, Mariana Islands, South Atlantic, Sinai, Kola, Afghanistan
