farmertom Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 Hi, Just got my Rift in yesterday..:) Installed software. Ran Oculus setup. Things seem to be working as expected. Now I am trying to run DCS with Rift and I am having noobie problems. Running DCS starts the Oculus software. My main monitor displays a half DCS image. The CV1 shows "DCS taking a while to load. Check the monitor..." etc. and never changes. I do hear the DCS music.. What do I do now? Can you point me to some documentations, directions etc? Thanks
dburne Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 Did you first go into the DCS settings on the monitor and put a check in the VR box? farmertom Posted May 19, 2018 Author Posted May 19, 2018 I must have. now that everytime I start DCS the Oculus software starts. Also using Oculus software I enabled using Unknown programs to use Oculus software. How do unable DCS using VR software?

farmertom Posted May 19, 2018 Author Posted May 19, 2018 Well I am not sure what the holodeck is. I see no mention of it. Tried so many setting etc I don't were I am at.. Is there a list of steps to take to make this work? Thanks
farmertom Posted May 19, 2018 Author Posted May 19, 2018 OK more info. I have set the desktop icon to run as administrator.. it still opens up a window and I minimize it. Inside the VR software I am using the Beta core. I see a 3d environment in which i see a desk top of sorts with a library..look cool. Is that the holodeck?..I see that DCS is a recent program run, I click to start it and all I get is "taking a long time to load" and it kick me back to the 3d environment. How do I start DCS in normal mode to make sure I have checked the "use VR mode"?
eaglecash867 Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 How do I start DCS in normal mode to make sure I have checked the "use VR mode"? Unplug your Rift. :D That should allow you to run DCS in normal mode. If the Oculus software auto-starts, just shut it down. You want to make sure that DCS even starts in the first place, and then start troubleshooting further if it starts in normal mode. Is there a list of steps to take to make this work? Thanks Probably silly question but I gotta ask, when you first start DCS you have your Rift headset on right? Are you raising it to click on the logon screen you will get on your monitor? Easy to miss, I have certainly done it. How do I start DCS in normal mode to make sure I have checked the "use VR mode"? Ok just caught the above. Do NOT try to run DCS from within the Oculus Home environment, the shortcuts it puts there are broken for DCS - always have been for me. You need to launch DCS from the shortcut on your desktop like you did before getting the Rift. I just put the Rift on, after Oculus Home starts I then raise the headset a little and double click the shortcut on my desktop. Also as previously mentioned you may need to click on a login screen on your monitor as well. Edit: Also just a tip for when you do get it going. First thing you will want to do in DCS is go to the controller setup menu, click on the module listings on the left - scroll all the way down till you get to the UI Layer ( almost at the bottom ). In there you will find both a VR re-center, and VR- Zoom function. You will want to assign these two to buttons on your HOTAS. They are both very useful for flying DCS in VR. The settings are global and not module specific. farmertom Posted May 19, 2018 Author Posted May 19, 2018 I appreciate you guys helping:thumbup: Where I stand now. 1) I found a .bat file to run to start and stop the ovrservice, which allowed me to stop the VR software from running. 2) Then I ran DCS and made sure I had the "use VR" mode checked. It was. 3) Restarted the ovrservice. 4) put on the vr headset- the 3d environment started (the house thing/ desktop) 5) moved up the vr headset and clicked the DCS shortcut. A half screen of DCS come up on the monitor. Left side of the splash screen. in the VR headset it says DCS loading and just stays there. Still lost as to what to do :(:(
dburne Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 (edited) I would not stop the OVR service and then launch DCS. OVR service needs to be running when launching any VR title. It is not just Oculus Home, it is the runtime for the Rift itself. I think you are really close and just maybe missing something simple, but hard to say from what I am seeing so far. Do you have DCS set in graphics to your monitor's native resolution? farmertom Posted May 19, 2018 Author Posted May 19, 2018 (edited) What is Oculus home? I have a shortcut to OculusClient.exe. Is that what you are calling Oculus Home? looks like a place to config some, buy games, etc. Stopping the ovrservice allowed me to run DCS in normal windows mode so I could check the VR settings. Yes I have run DCS in full screen in the native resolution (1920 x 1080) after re-reading your post I think OculusClient and oculius home are the same... Edited May 19, 2018 by farmertom

Yes I have run DCS in full screen in the native resolution (1920 x 1080) Oculus Home is the software for the environment you are in when you put on the headset, and how you interact with that environment. Can you post a screenshot of the image on your monitor you are describing after launching DCS? FragBum Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 Just off base, sometimes when you get an update or first run Rift, DCS has to do a lot of rendering which can take several minutes the first time? This can appear as DCS not doing anything but Task manager will show lowish 5% CPU usage. Also have you set use "unknown Sources" in Rift settings? Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment. Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above. farmertom Posted May 19, 2018 Author Posted May 19, 2018 OK here is my desktop image... rift says loading DCS taking awhile. I hear the DCS music...
dburne Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 (edited) OK here is my desktop image... rift says loading DCS taking awhile. I hear the DCS music... Something is amiss there. You should be getting a complete image of what is seen in one eye. There is a clue there, we gotta just figure out what it is. I presume DCS has been running fine for your prior to trying it with the Rift? It sure looks like the resolution is off. Edit: Are you running any third party software, like injectors or anything? Yes, DCS was running great before. I do have run full screen checked some where in the settings... I will go un-check that.
