falken76 Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Hey Eagle Dynamics, can I switch my maps from steam to stand alone? I am pissed off that I purchased through steam only to find out everything comes out later if at all over there. I can't play MP anywhere because everyone switched to the PG map and I can't even pay for it on steam. I see no benefit to steam at all, you absolutely should put something on steam that says "New releases don't come out at the same time as stand alone and could take weeks, months or years to come out here" I find out after the fact that certain things are not transferrable because the information was not made available on the original sales channel that even brought DCS to my attention. I was mislead by omission of information. Are you willing to allow me to transfer my modules and maps over to stand alone? I purchased on steam and have proof of purchase. I own FC3, A10c, Combined arms, F15: red Flag, F15:Georgian War, NTTR Map and Normandy Map. If you will not, I INSIST you put a disclaimer up on steam informing potential buyers that they get access to MORE content and FASTER via stand alone vs steam. It is unfair to not inform your customer of the options available to them.
Kayos Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Some things can be transferred. I think all the old stuff can so you might be good. I'll let someone who knows more about it post though. You are right, there should be a warning on Steam. Have you tried downloading Standalone and try activating your modules? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Balzarog Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 (edited) The module keys for modules purchased on Steam have not been transferable since the M2000 C came out about a year ago. At that time, ED stated that modules released before the Mirage would still be transferable to the Standalone for an unspecified period of time. That might have ended with DCS 2.5.x. It's because of the new registration system DCS uses. Based on the modules, terrains, and campaigns you listed, you should have a pretty good chance of being able to do it, except maybe the F-15upgrade to FC3. You should investigate if you can download DCS 2.5.x and transfer the content you bought on Steam to it. If you don't have anything that was released with or after the Mirage, you might be able to transfer. Anything later, and you might be SOL. Do a search in these forums on transferring modules Et Alia from Steam to DCS. It really isn't fair to blame ED for this. DCS does not control what Steam puts on their site. Steam should put a disclaimer in their content to warn purchasers the content can't be transferred. Maybe they do, I don't use Steam for DCS purchases. falken76 Posted May 24, 2018 Author Posted May 24, 2018 The only things I have that officially are non transferrable should be the maps, but that's still $90 worth of content I'm not just willing to give up because I certainly wouldn't buy them again, nobody plays the damn maps, but I still like making my own things on them in ME. It is fair to place blame on ED. Steam is not the one saying "You can't release the PG map" ED is afraid of negative feedback or bad reviews (And I understand this, steam is the Ebay/Amazon of the developer world. I.E. A sales channel with volume they couldn't hope to achieve on their own in their wildest dreams) ED is also given a blank slate to work with by steam, so they can write their own announcements, such as "Here are the differences between steam and stand alone" Steam could also help by putting that information up. I'll end up having to wait it out. I imagine the release of the F18 is going to be frustrating when all the stand alone people are shooting you down with an f18 and you probably have to wait months before you can even buy it and they'll all be bad ass with it and you'll be terrible. Anyway, what are your guesses as to when the map will be available on steam? My guess is a month if not longer.
Balzarog Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Have you contacted DCS support directly about the questions? That might be a better path than ranting in a thread on a forum. Tried to help; you're welcome. When all else fails, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! i-7 8700K Coffee Lake 5 GHz OC CPU, 32GB Corsair 3200 RAM, GTX1080 Ti 11Gb VRAM. falken76 Posted May 24, 2018 Author Posted May 24, 2018 Thanks for the attempt to help. I'm just frustrated that I can't use this right now because the servers I use are now all on the PG map. I'd rather vent than ask them since I know their policy and I have the two maps that can't be moved.
John Hargreaves Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 I've dealt with ED support a couple of times and they have been exceptionally helpful. It can't change their policy I guess, but the help desk people were really, well, helpful. I agree, you might be better off asking them, as the last time I had an issue, a lot of the input here in the forum was directly contradicting what ED themselves said. Most times you get amazing support in these forums, but when it comes to policy stuff like this, probably only ED themselves know the exact answer. It's tough when you get frustrated, but it's important to keep it polite as you get a much better response from the experienced players, and they are often the people you want on your team. i7-7700K/Gigabyte RTX2080/Win10 64bit/32Gb RAM/Asus Xonar DX+Sennheiser HD380pro headphones/LG 34" UM65 @2560x1080/TM Warthog+VKB MkIV Rudder pedals/Rift CV1
