External power /ground power

In some of the Wag hornet video, during taxing out from the ramp in Persian gulf map, there are unit that looks like ground power units sitting beside the FA-18C.

Any hints on if this unit are being actually functional in the sim and if the external power section in the cockpit of aircraft being really functional too?

Startup procedure has generally been from APU startup and non from ground power so far.

I wouldn't see why it wouldn't be implemented... But, you typically wouldn't have power applied and engines off unless you are sitting in alert 5 on the Cat.

Okay,

 

I am guessing to sit on alert 5 on the cat implies to scramble the aircraft like in a scenerio where enemy planes are inbound and needs to be intercepted immediately.
