3-pos switch abstractions for AP - edge triggered?

I have a 3 position switch on my warthog throttle set for the 3 AP modes, AH, SEL AH and APP Hold. These work fine if i change them whilst the AP is activated, but if i activate AP, the position of the switch is not checked and i have to move the switch, possibly away from the mode that i need and then back again, to activate the desired mode.

The A10C appears to be able to use the switch to handle 3 AP states, for PATH, ALT/HDG and ALT, and the position of the switch appears to be sensed correctly when the AP is selected, so why isn't the M-2000C able to do the same?

It does not work because the M2000 module does not sync the position of the switches in the peripherals with those in the sim.

ah, as the M2000C has 4 AP modes, with the default being Attitude Hold (known as PATH in the A10C), that would be counted out if the AP had to choose a mode based on the position of the switch at activation.

As the Warthog doesn't have any 4-pos switches, i guess this is the only way to implement it.

It does for at least some of them, like the radar operation knob.

If the position of the switch that you have selected is sending a DX input code at the start, then the module will read it and will set it to that position in the sim. If it is in the neutral position, which does not send any DX code, it will not sync.

I have all the radar switches mapped in my Warthog (bars, PRF, azimuth width, projection, EM/SIL, etc) and this is how it currently behaves.

You should always have you attitude AP on (bottom one) minus during takeoff, refuel, dogfight and last part of landing, and use the trim to command your aircraft or use the AP standby button when you want to fly it.

That's how it's done IRL.

thanks for that @myHelljumper.

I think i had better remap the AP standby button to make it more accessible then. :)

Edit: now that really is an effective and fun way to fly. effectively using the left and right trim buttons as a heading control makes a lot of sense. thanks for the tip.
