I have tried in vain to find the answer in the "pocket guide".

I have an A/G attack mission where I use rockets and the gun.

If I use the gun first and then the rockets, I have no problem. Although I find it illogical that I have to select A/A Gun mode and then switch to A/G mode.

But if I fire off my rockets first, and then try to use the gun, I cannot get into A/G gun mode. The gun pod (pod 4) is selected and the A/G mode light is ON. But the HUD does not show the number of rounds available and it shows 4 oblique lines in the middle.

Can anybody tell me what the correct sequence is?

Hi LeCuvier,

It's been a while since I have flown with this load out so I tested it this morning. I armed my aircraft in the ME with "Rockets 1".

1. Entered AG mode and selected "Stores Page".

2. Selected the "x4 Zuni Mk71s" using the OSB and ran in on target.

2. Fired of all eight at the target and following that run selected the "GUN" using relevant OSB.

Pressed the trigger and my guns operated .

I then tested out the dual functionality whereby you can fire guns during a rocket run.

1. I selected both "FFAR Mk5s" and "GUN" using relevant OSBs and ran in on target.

2. My HUD showed both the Rocket reticle and gun cross pipper.

3. I launched x4 rockets and then pressed the gun trigger and all functioned as expected.

4. I then switched to "GUN" only using the OSBs and pressed the trigger. The HUD symbology switched off the gun cross pipper and left the normal gun reticle in place. My gun operated as expected.

Is your procedure any different to mine LeCuvier?

Its bugged somehow. Try switching to Nav and back to AG gun. Or try the gun switch on the other MFD.

what gun switch on the right MPD?

By the way it worked OK in two successive missions today. In the third mission again, I could not fire the gun after the rockets although I didn't do anything different.

So it does not fail all the time.

I don't go to the stores page at all.

1. My sequence for using the gun only:

Nav Mode

Master Arm On

Pod 4 selected

A/A mode GUN

A/G mode

Fire gun

2. My sequence for firing rockets:

Nav Mode

Master Arm On

Rocket Pod(s) selected

Rocket quantity set

A/G mode

Fire Rockets

It's when I try to fire the gun after exhausting the rockets that I sometimes cannot activate the gun in A/G mode. In that situation I can only use the gun in A/A mode. I can hit ground targets that way but it's difficult because you have to fly low.

Edit:

I ran the mission again, using the "Stores" page to activate Gun / Rockets resp. and that worked fine. Seems that that's the way to do it.

Thanks!

Folks, AA gun and AG gun are different systems even if they are using the same weapon.

To properly select A/G gun, it must be done via MPCD and with the aircraft in AG mode. This way you can even use rockets and gun at the same time:

1. Select AG Gun

2. Select Rockets.

Now the CCIP piper will be for the rockets and the gun cross will be shown on the HUD. This is called a "Hot Gun".

You aim the rockets with the piper and the gun with the cross (it is a fixed sight).

Selecting AA gun and the switching to AG mode will not make the system work. I'll check and see if it is possible to select AG gun via ACP.

Everytime I select GUN, the first time I hit the trigger a missile fires. Just one. Then the gun works normally. Anyways, just landed on a carrier and it froze 10 ft off the deck not to move again. I have gotten accustomed to unexplainable things in DCS so it is biz as usual.
