I was wondering if I should fold my wings with air to air missiles attached to them when on the carrier. What is the correct way of dealing with this, should we remove missiles first before folding, or can the F18 deal with the extra weight?

I'm wondering because I am trying to make a mission with the editor and added some F18s to a Stennis. When I don't pick any loadout my wings are folded when the mission starts. As soon as I pick a loadout and start the mission, I start with unfolded wings.

The weird thing is that the rest of my flight package always starts with folded wings, even if they have a loadout.

You just should have thought about it...

You land on carrier, and you must quickly get off from the way of your wingmen etc that are coming after you. And to park on busy deck you need to fold your wings before going.

No one would be there to start unloading missiles so you can move away ;)

And as folding wing parts are generating only 30% of the lift (why you can fly wings folded up), they are designed to withstand high G-loads that is stressing far more the wing folding mechanism (even when locked) than a Sidewinder weight on it when you are just folding them up slowly.

As well you get loaded up on deck for upcoming sorties and yet parked on deck waiting your turn and you sit there wings folded up, so you must be able to start-up and move to catapult where to fold wings down.

I am not expert, but pretty much possible, as my screen wallpaper on my 2 screens for many many years are a Legacy Hornet on a Carrier deck chained down with wing folded and a missile on lest side. I was surprised when i seen this so made something out to be my screensaver :)

Hey! I have a little question for you. :) Maybe it's stupid, but how did you do to have the F18 spawned with folded wings on the carrier? I can't find the option to fold them as default.

Gotta check for the option in the rearm page below the chaff and flares for the option « Refurnish Ductape to keep wing folded » :P teasing you, i dunno but if you find let me know :)

The folding part of the wing only has one station, which in turn can only take a Sidewinder - so some 85 kg + launcher.

See attachment......just saying :D

You need to use the scrollwheel first then left click to rotate.

Yeah I've seen this, but damn, that's insane! Never thought about it tbh!

Heh no neither did I.

The ordinance weight on folded wing panel on the MiG-29K is about 3 times that of wingtip AIM-9s on the Hornet, but the dual S-25 on the Su-33....those alone must be well over a ton!

Exactly.

In total, two S-25s rockets would be 960 kg, plus R-73, we have 1,065 kg of weapons! Let's not forget the Sorbitsya pod too. :) (Dunno how much it weighs).

Yes plus launchers & racks...I wouldn't be surprised if the dual rack itself weighs a couple of hundred kg.

Anyway, a different aircraft and off-topic I guess, but I doubt some 130 kg worth of AIM-9+LAU-7 on the wingtip of the Hornet is a problem for the wingfold mechanism.
