Black_Hawk Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Why does the '27 only have flaps on it's wings? 159th GAR LockOnFiles CAW Team
Black_Hawk Posted April 8, 2007 Author Posted April 8, 2007 No, I meant why doesn't it have ailerons on its' wings; the only moving surfaces on the wings are the flaps (and the leading edge flaps). 159th GAR LockOnFiles CAW Team
TekaTeka Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Those are called "flaperons" and worked as both flaps and ailerons. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaperon TekaTeka from Japan [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Visit my site Beyond Visual Range.

S77th-konkussion Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 The basic Su-27 has not. It's derivatives (like Su-33, Su-30MK) have them. But the SU-33 flaps are only a single stage full on/off? I could have sworn someone said the logic for removing the 2-stage way back when was because it had "flaperons", but the splash screen photo (loading) for the 33 certainly does not support that. Black_Hawk Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 Yup, once we did have 2 stage flaps... I just wanted to know if the flaperons were better then the regular ailerons in terms of agility... But in Wikipedia it says that it's to reduce the weight and complexity of the a/c wings. 159th GAR LockOnFiles CAW Team
Aeroscout Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Why does the '27 only have flaps on it's wings? :megalol: Ya... There is also what is called "drooping alierons." This is seen in the F/A-18 and (I think) on the Su-33. The ailerons actually "droop" down about 10 degees when the flapes are extended to help create extra lift and extra flap area. the ailerons are still operable, but are just pointed down a bit more.
