witwas Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Hi Guys, I am looking into buying a motion platform (used in combination with vr) which I will be only using for flight sims (DCS, Aerofly and elite). After weeks of browsing the internet it seems that hardware is more than available (simukit is only 30 min away from where I live and there is a dealer in the area of next level motion platforms and there are some other dealers in France as well). The software part on the other hand seems to be another kind of story. I read a lot of mixed story’s from ok to not working at all. I know there are some DCS users who own motion platforms . So please share you opinion and insight. It is an investment I am willing to take but not without proper information. Thanks,
Blackrat_UK Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 (edited) I have the NLR motion on my 8020 P1 rig from Sim-labs, its prime use is sim racing along with simvibe and 6 transducers for which it is totally in the zone, especially in VR. For flight sims I am not finding the motion that much of a help TBH, I had 10 years crewing a rotary, if you fly in balance you shouldn't have any side leaning, the fore and aft movement is okay but it doesn't pass on that G moment when you go light or heavy in the seat. Now if the software allowed side leaning when you are out of balance it would be very good. IMHO just for flight simming 2 DOF is probably not worth the money. VR and transducers most definitely. Blackrat_UK Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 Oh I might qualify that if turbulence was modelled it might make a difference ;)
BlacleyCole Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 There’s a guy here who md a motion platform for a huey that’ looks feat if I had the room I would definitely do the same but my room is limited I ave a jetseat and vr I might invest in some usb transducers if I raise my setup up so its easier for me to get out of the seat. I need to raise about three to four inches with a platform I would be able to securely mount everything so it doesn’t move . I’m thinking of what to do it’s on my project list for when I feel better. Right now I’m busy building a fob for future mission use, the I need to build my button box and get voice attack working better then I’ll think about raising the seat and controls up. I wish it could be motion but headroom is limited I only have less than a foot when seated of vertical travel and horizontal is limit forward and aft no side to side would need to be adjusted as the platforms on the seat are against the wall on one side but I would love a 3 or 4 dof motion setup that ouldwok in limited area BlackeyCole 20years usaf XP-11.
