Greyman Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 Has anyone either done this, or found a video of anyone doing it, and lasted more than a couple of minutes? I've told my 3 AI wingmen to engage and they've dutifully launched a Sparrow each and I have set up and launched countermeasures, apparently successfully, to avoid the first wave of hostile radar guided missiles. however, i never get the chance of launching a Sidewinder before getting hit by the second wave of nasties. It looks like my wingmen aren't doing much better as their Sparrows never appear to land and they even sometimes have to eject before i get wasted. It isn't pretty and I must be doing something wrong or not doing enough right Any tips or a video link would be gratefully received. alternatively i perhaps just need to learn to walk before i can run. :)
Sandman1330 Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 I've struggled with this mission too. The problem I've had is the radar bouncing between the contacts, rather than staying locked on one (known problem). This causes my sparrows to go wild. gavagai Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 It took me about 10 tries to complete it. Don't bother launching the AIM-7 BVR. Notch like crazy and then use the radar acm modes to lock targets when you are within 10nm. Kill one mig head-on, and blow through the merge to gain separation. If you try to dogfight right away you will die badly. Other thoughts... Ditch the stupid centerline tank asap, decrease rwr volume, and disable the g-limiter at the right moments, especially to evade inbound missiles. Greyman Posted June 8, 2018 Author Posted June 8, 2018 Thanks for the tips and for the comfort that it isn't just me. What I have been guilty of however, is proving Einstein's definition of stupidity, by doing the same, or very similar things and expecting something different to happen. I'll give your tips a go this weekend, but just one question about the AI wingmen. Is it worth bothering to use them actively or would you prefer to just use them as decoys?
gavagai Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Tell them to engage and then let them do whatever.
