sp0nge Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 ED mapped the Crimea Heaps well!! I read somewhere, that SOMEONE found a playing field for soccer or something right on the coast.. like, RIGHT ON THE COAST. And he looked it up on google earth and it was there surprisingly :) Is breaking the laws of gravity illegal? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 I read somewhere, that SOMEONE found a playing field for soccer or something right on the coast.. like, RIGHT ON THE COAST..... A couple of years ago I was updating Shepski's original Map Tour with extra locations and background info and splitting it into the seperate Crimea Tour and Caucasus Tour. I was looking for background info and real life pictures of places on the map, I found this picture of Tuapse (port on the Caucasus coast). I was real surprised to see a soccer field by the docks - must be a real bummer when the ball gets kicked into the harbour - . Looked at the same place in Lockon and sure enough it was modelled.... I was constantly amazed while working on the Tours just how much work must've gone into the Lockon map. The number of historical monuments included in the Crimea makes me suspect that whoever worked on the Lockon map must have lived there or maybe been stationed there during military service. I do get a bit annoyed when folks come onto the Forums after flying Lockon for a couple of months and moan that they are bored with the map and want another theatre, when they probably have only seen 10% of the map. monotwix Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 The map was built from the satellite pics wasn't it? But surely not everything is on it. I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully.
SuperKungFu Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 of course not "everything" is on it. Today, the world keeps changing but it is one of the most detailed maps i had ever seen in any sim. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
deathcoffin Posted April 18, 2007 Author Posted April 18, 2007 The reason why i asked about the map name was because i wanted to try flying around the zone in FSX. Sadly theres only one airport mapped in FSX and thats it. No sochi etc....
Aeroscout Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 that's terible! DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices
deathcoffin Posted April 19, 2007 Author Posted April 19, 2007 FSX seems to map out every single airport around the world...at least for all the places i ever thought of but only one airport is present in crimea - shiverpool something....whatever the name.. So im beginning to wonder are the rest of the airports in lockon a made up fantasy?

So im beginning to wonder are the rest of the airports in lockon a made up fantasy?Maybe you mean Simpheropol? The likely reason that most of the Lockon map airfields are not in FSX is because they are military airfields. I think that Simpheropol is purely civilian. As for the Caucasus part of the map, I would expect Krasnodar Pashkovskiy to be in FSX as I think that is civil also. Since the end of the Cold War, some of the other bases are likely to have converted partially / totally to be civil fields, just like many ex-NATO bases in Europe have. deathcoffin Posted April 19, 2007 Author Posted April 19, 2007 Hmm its weird FSX doesnt map those airbases for crimea but does map it for the rest of the world. Even area 51's being totally mapped out if ya with me...so i dont see why those of crimea doesnt.
