Hi all...new to VR and have to say I don't think i can ever go back! This is truly amazing and what I've wanted for my sims for easily 30 years now. I went with the pimax and I am truly happy with it. I tried it with my trackIR 5 and it did decent. As you may or may not know, the Pimax doesn't have a full 6dof. Since they seem to recognize each other, I attempted to make a profile where the trackIR only tracked XYZ axis' and not the roll/pitch/yaw since Pimax takes care of that. Well, it somewhat works. The two devices seem to be fighting somewhat inside the cockpit.

Anyone had any luck with a "dual tracking" setup like this or better at setting up trackIR profiles than I am? Any advice or discussion is welcome. Thanks!

You can adjust which axes are used in the controls settings. Pick axes from the dropdown and remove whichever binding you don't want to use.

Is there no way to just disable the Pimax tracking? TrackIR side is easy, just set to 1:1 and you should be golden.

You don't stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing.

Using TrackIR in 1:1 mode is not gonna work since turning your head over 90 degrees makes the camera lose its sight on your IR-led's (or reflectors). Of course this depends on how your clip is set up but anyway looking behind would be impossible.

Edit: Hmmm... how about using something like EDTracker for XYZ?

I actually never thought about that! (not that I really looked into it either)

I thought the Pimax 8k specs, that were released, looked promising (high res and 200deg), but will the 8k also not have 6dof?

Because in that case, imo, that pretty much rules out its use for dcs (as I don't have TrackIr)

Considering I'd have to aditionally buy a TrackIr set and the lack of controllers, it seems like no match for the 2nd gen Rift/Vive

Or am I missing something essential here? :book::huh:

Pimax users use the PSeye camera and PSmove software generally. I bought a Pimax a few years ago when their QC sucked (sent it back after 3 days). I also bought and modified a couple of PSeye cameras and made the tracking ball. It was kind of a PITA to set up but it worked Well.

Yeah, I approached Kevin Henderson about Pimax contacting the folks at TrackIR where TrackIR handles X, Y, and Z axis only, and as you said letting Pimax handle Roll, Pitch and Yaw for seated sims, like DCS, X-Plane, and racing. Henderson dismissed me offhand saying room scale was the goal, not seated, so it’s nice to see you have pursued the notion as well. I’ve had nothing but teasing moments of true 6DOF, THEN FRUSTRATING HOURS of losing the VIVE LIGHTHOUSE tracking and nothing I do gets it back.

I’m sure the combo could be a stable 6 DOF platform. I still swear by TrackIR for 2-D....and it would be cool to collaborate on this Pimax/TrackIR possibility, especially when we TrackIR users have already invested $150 for head tracking.

Regards,

Chas
