Can anyone from VKB comment on this?

Is it safe to add springs to the #50's in the Gunfighter Pro? I would like a little more resistance, I just do not like the very soft feel around center, can not tell when stick is centered. And I don't think I would much care for the hard center #30 cam.

Thinking maybe added two of the #20's might help with the resistance??

Any issue with the gimbal handling this?

I'm pretty sure it is, within reason. That's why we ended up with metal cases on the base : people were loading them up and cracking the plastic cases. As long as you stop when you hit the edge it should be ok :p

Thanks, wondering if anyone in here has tried this... I would be more worried about possibly bending the pins the springs hook on.

I saw someone mention recently they even added the heavy spring, so there were two on each axis, and still had the slop around center, so I don't know if it would be worth my trying.

It is safe.

Bear in mind however that stronger springs are meant to be used in Pro version (with extension).

Simply speaking, if you get used to the stronger springs on a desktop joystick and then decide to go with a Pro, you might find it funny that the resistance is way too easy for a longer lever.

But anyway, go ahead and try. VKB's warranty is lifetime, why not :)

Added later: if I remember it right, you are in fact using the Pro version. Then just go ahead. We wouldn't supply the #50 springs if it wasn't safe.

Yes I am using the Pro with the #50 springs.

Good to hear, thanks.

Was mainly just wanting to make sure it would be safe to have a pair of those strong springs on each axis.

Or would adding say the #30 spring to the #50 on each axis increase the resistance any?

Update:

After checking with VKB, I found that the max springs they recommend combined is #80. So as I already one each of #50 spring installed, I went in and added one each #30 to each axis. Thank goodness for the zip tie trick, so much easier to handle these things!

While I was in there, I went ahead and dialed in just a small amount of clutch dampener on each axis.

Added the springs, and then put her back together again (I am getting pretty good at this LOL) and mounted back on my Monster Tech extended mount.

Then re-calibrated.

OMG she feels so much better now, much more to my liking now! I can actually feel where center is on the stick ( with the installed #10 cams). And the resistance I feel as I progressively move the stick to the extremes is much better also.

All that slop it seemed like was around center is now gone.

Now to get back to flying and burning this thing in a little. I will tip my hat to VKB on the Gunfighter gimbal design, getting it out and working on it is not too bad.

Ok so this morning I have taken out the #30 springs and put in #20 springs. So now on each axis I have one #50 and one #20 spring.

Man I am getting pretty good at this, had the stick off the Monster Tech Mount, gimbal out, springs swapped out, and everything back together ready to go in 30 minutes. And re-calibrated. Not bad, again I have to tip my hat to VKB for the ease of usability in accessing and working on this gimbal design. Very nice.

Have only been moving it around for a little while, and I am pretty sure I am going to like this feel even better than what I had adding the #30 springs. Little less resistance especially moving to extremes, but still enough resistance overall that I can tell " I think" when I have the stick centered. Will be able to tell better once I get some flight time in with it. I had a little bit of area in the center of the pitch axis, where the stick would stay where I put it - very small but noticeable. I loosed up on the pitch dry clutch slightly, and this took care of that. I hopefully will have a couple of hours later this afternoon to really give it a good test.

But the customizability of the VKB Gunfighter is very nice for sure. From having the options of combining different spring strengths along with the dry clutches. It will be interesting once I set this up in choppers later on to see how increasing the dry clutches might help in them.

One with any tastes in feel can definitely get the stick where they like it with a little effort and testing.
