philstyle Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 I have an audio file in OGG format which I am triggering in the ME via "play sound" to all. The OGG file is in mono, and is normailsed/ compressed to be realtively loud, sittign at about -3DB peak. When playing the sound in VLC, or windows media player, it is clear and loud. However in both the ME and when in mission, the playback volume is incredibly quiet, almost inaudible. Does anyone know if this is normal and fixable? Johnny_Rico Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 (edited) check your DCS audio settings? and also windows audio levels for dcs.exe or normalise to a higher value and retry Edited July 20, 2018 by Johnny_Rico METAR weather for DCS World missions Guide to help out new DCS MOOSE Users -> HERE Havoc Company Dedicated server info Connect IP: 94.23.215.203 SRS enabled - freqs - Main = 243, A2A = 244, A2G = 245 Please contact me HERE if you have any server feedback or METAR issues/requests
feefifofum Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 Post your file if you like and I'll take a look. It may be that the peak is so much louder than the average volume of the content (like a "p" pop or mic handling noise frequently are) that compressing the file doesn't catch enough to bring the peak down sufficiently without extremely aggressive settings. I'm an audio engineer by trade so I can probably get it sorted for you. THE GEORGIAN WAR - OFFICIAL F-15C DLC
Habu_69 Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 I have recorded many audio files for DCS and also experienced that playback in the ME is very low volume. Same file plays somewhat louder in the 3D world; nevertheless, I adjust sound file volumes much louder than normal.
moespeeds Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 When I'm editing sound files for mission's, I set my main volume to half what I play at, and use that as a "benchmark" for where they need to be. For whatever reason they are much quieter in game than on say, audacity. Moe "Moespeeds" Colontonio vVMA 231 http://www.vvma-231.com/ Looking for a serious US based Harrier Squadron? CHPL Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 rais the audio level to +1 or +2. In the audio settings reduce the DCS and the outside cockpit noiseWorld sound. Always happy landings ;)
moespeeds Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 Also, in mission editor, when you "test play" the sound file it'll more or less play at the level in game. Moe "Moespeeds" Colontonio vVMA 231 http://www.vvma-231.com/ Looking for a serious US based Harrier Squadron? We are recruiting!
