ShamAKM Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Hi all I'm always far behind with my comp, but i really don't care that much. Finely I'm switching to dual-core from +3800 to opteron 185. Is there any problems waiting for me running LOCK ON (one of the best sims ever made) Any help is  Maybe some tweaking i have to do etc. thank you.
Kuky Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Why are you going for AMD dual core... Intel's Core 2 Duo's are much better and considering LockOn is #1 CPU dependant I'd recoment you go for C2D... unless you've made up your mind already. For LockOn just get some utility to set the exe to run on single core. There are instances of LockOn having very shoppy performance if you dont set this CPU affinity (I had such experience myself). Other than that there are no problems with LockOn running on multi core CPU's. Andrew_McP Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Why are you going for AMD dual core... Intel's Core 2 Duo's are much better The AMD dual core will almost certainly fit in the same motherboard. No need to rebuild the whole machine with motherboard, CPU, DDR2 RAM, and a fresh Windows installation. Anyway, I had no problems with LOMAC when I went to a x2 3800. The only gains I saw came from changing from a Barton Mobile Athlon to a 64bit CPU with improved memory controller. None of that will apply here, so it'll purely be about the difference in MHz between the two CPUs. Andrew McP
Kuky Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 The AMD dual core will almost certainly fit in the same motherboard. In that case it can look as better option. Purely performance wise C2D's are better and they are not expensive either, but yes, you would need new motherboard and RAM. Pilotasso Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Get a 6000+, they are outrageously cheap now. Should fit in the same MOBO and provide similar perfomance to E6400 C2D. .
Anytime Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 careful I don't think the boards are compatible, I looked at going from a 3800+ dual core to a 6600+ and couldn't due to the sockets.
Andrew_McP Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Good point Anytime. He'll need a 939 x2 rather than an AM2, and it's easy to make a mistake when ordering. If there was a new AM2 motherboard required, then an Intel Conroe would make much more sense instead. Andrew McP
