I searched the Pocket Guide for NVG and it doesn't say much, except to load them from the Ground Crew before start. I did that. I started up fully, and then Toggled NVG on, it took 4 mins.

Now what? I got no NVG..

I read to turn the HUD to Night, I did that, but I don't know what that has to do with NVG?

You toggled NVG on, it took 4 mins but you got no NVG? What took 4 mins then?

What he did was switch the visor for the nvg. I've changed my mind in so I forgot the correct key combo. But just search your controls for goggle. You'll find it

If I'm sitting Hot in the parking area, how can I tell if I have the NVG working? I expected everything to be green?

I adjust the NVG Brightness and don't see any changes. I don't see everything green or gray.

LShift +N? I pressed that and I think it said it was switching to NVG. But what should I see when it works.

No. Switching to NVG is the process of taking off the dark visor and putting the NVG on the helmet so you can use nvgs. I think the combo is called toggle goggles or something. But I always change that key so I don't know ow the default bind.

Maybe I have a bug in my game.

I have the ground crew load the nvg.

I press LCTRL+LSHIFT+N (Switch the Helmet Visor for NVG). And that takes 4 minutes.. Then I get the message that the NVG are loaded on my helmet.

Then I press LSHIFT+N (Helmet Visor/NVB Toggle). I assume that pulls them over my eyes and turns them on? But I get that message again "Loading NVG will take 4 minutes."

I never get that ground, green cockpit view that I see in Chucks guide.

Am I doing everything correctly? No other switches I need to set?

I'm going to do a repair and try once again...

What are you pressing LCTRL+LSHIFT+N For??? What does that do?? All you need to do is go into the coms menu and ask ground crew to equip NVG....Then when done you should press LSHIFT+N and thats it?

I did that several times, just as you said and it didn't work. Then I saw the command in the game called 'Switch the Helmet Visor for NVG'. So, I tried it. It also gives me the 4 minute message. But you are correct, as Chuck's guide doesn't say that.

I just did a game repair, and removed all of my mods.

And then, I just tried it once again exactly as you said, and I can see the goggles are on my head and down, but when I jump into the cockpit view.. nothng.. Just a normal view.

PS: I should say that I am using the Beta.

Yes, and I will try the stock game when I have a chance.

It seems to me with this other command, that they may plan on this procedure:

- Ask ground crew to load nvg into stowage(4 minutes).

- Mount nvg on your head in the up position (4 minutes?) (LShift+LCtrl+N)

- Toggle goggles up and visor down (LShift+N)

but who knows... They haven't updated this in almost 2 months.

Complete shot in the dark, but on top of my head... isn't there an option in the Mission Editor to have NVGs available? Could it be something like that?
I built a mission with the NVG already loaded. I checked the box in the mission flight options to load it. You can see the NVG on my head in the pic.

That is strange, I don't even turn on the battery switch, as I need the NVG's to find it.

LShift+N gives me this, at start up.

Try this mission with a ramp start AV-8B at Nalchik @ 21:10, on spawn don't mess with anything, just use LShift+N to turn on the NVG and find the battery switch, etc.

@Ramsay - Are you using the Beta or Stock?

I'll try that mission, thanks.

UPDATE:

Hey! That mission worked exactly as you said. Just started the mission and pressed LShift+N and the goggles turned on green circle.

Strange that last night I clearly had them on and down over my eyes in the External view, but not in the Cockpit view. I still don't understand that. I also had a key mapped for those keypresses on my x55 and I think I had something wrong in there too.

So, I pressed the LCTRL+LSHIFT+N (Switch the Helmet Visor for NVG), and it took off the NVG and put on the visor. Then I pressed LShift+N again, and the visor goes down. Press again it goes back up.

So, I loaded the mission I was testing with last night. I had added the NVG to the mission by checking that checkbox on the Flight's options tab (Home). So, it already has the NVG on the aircraft, like your mission does. But in my mission, I don't start off wearing the goggles, I have to put them on with that LCTRL+LSHIFT+N command to swap the visor for the nvg. Then they worked as in your mission.

Is there some other option in the Mission Editor to have you start with them on your helmet, and not in the stowage box?

In my mission, I checked the checkbox to load the goggles in the stowage box. See here in this pic.

In your mission you do not check that checkbox? And the NVG start on your head. How do you set that up in the Mission Editor?

Whether the pilot is wearing the Sun visor or NVG's depends on the time of day.

In my AV-8B sample mission (Mission date 23rd Aug 2018 ):

19:10 = Pilot with sun visor, LShift+N lowers or raises visor

20:10 = Pilot with NVG, LShift+N turns NVG ON or OFF

21:10 = Pilot with NVG, LShift+N turns NVG ON or OFF

I'm not sure of the exact timing but it's probably linked to sunset/sunrise and varies with the date/season i.e. like the runway/taxiway lighting or the Tarawa's night lighting.

THAT was probably part of my problem. I was trying to set the time around dusk, so I could test the NVG while it was somewhat dark, but also look in the Exterior view to see if he was wearing them or not. I tried several missions and started over a few times, changing the TOD.

That is a key piece of info I think that should be documented somewhere. Didn't see that in the pocket guide, Chuck's guide, or any google searches.

Thanks!!
