Sharpe_95 Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 (edited) [Win 10, most up to date version of dcs, gtx1080, 32gb ram - NOT using VR] Guys are there any good graphics or system troubleshooters out there? I think a graphics (or some other system/driver update) has totally ruined my game. It was working perfectly well until last night when I did a lot of PC driver and system updates. Now DCS is crashing a lot more than it was (it was faily stable before) and its taking even longer to load than usual. Critically in game where as it used to run smooth as silk, now the FPS is all over the place and the game is stuttering/catching every 2 to 3 seconds. Does anyone have a suggestion for how this could be fixed without needing to reinstall Windows? I tried a roll back to before all the system updates but it failed for some reason. So far I have tried repair and now a fresh install of dcs (I left my saved games file where it was as I assume there is nothing in this causing the issue). My gut feel is that this is not DCS (or if it is it's some graphics setting that needs to be changed either in the Nvidia settings or in DCS that has tripped up). I'm running a good pc with a 1080gtx and as I say dcs was working perfectly till yesterday. Only change was so lot of system refresh type stuff using a tool called Iobit. Any help out there? *Updated notes* This issue is only effecting DCS. I tried skyrim an it seems fine. The game now crashes every time I get into sim and pres 'esc' then 'quit' (hangs screen and fails to move). I have completely uninstalled the graphics card and reinstalled in - no change at all (although skyrim still running fine). - Sharpe Edited September 5, 2018 by Sharpe_95
StandingCow Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Hopefully I didn't miss it but... are you running DCS on an SSD? If not I HIGHLY recommend it. I also suggest you stop using tools to "refresh/clean" your PC... Windows 10 doesn't like it and it seems almost every strange issue I read on the windows10 subreddit ends up being someone that runs these tools. I used to use them myself on older window versions... but I suggest not using them with 10. 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo

Will uninstall the refresh/clean app immediately. How do you resolve the gremlins issues created that you mention?
David OC Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Hopefully the clean app didn't mess up the win 10 registry. I would start by stripping the graphic driver completely using DDU Uninstaller. Also check that DCS is still using all the CPU cores and something hasn't affected DCS using all the cores. We have see this here many times before. Skip to 2:00 He shows you how his system is stuck on one core using DCS and shows you how to force to use all the cores in windows. If this is a problem now? You can use process lasso to force settings when using DCS. i7-7700K OC @ 5Ghz | ASUS IX Hero MB | ASUS GTX 1080 Ti STRIX | 32GB Corsair 3000Mhz | Corsair H100i V2 Radiator | Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe 500G SSD | Samsung 850 EVO 500G SSD | Corsair HX850i Platinum 850W | Oculus Rift | ASUS PG278Q 27-inch, 2560 x 1440, G-SYNC, 144Hz, 1ms | VKB Gunfighter Pro Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Download PDF Tutorial guides to help get up to speed with aircraft quickly and also great for taking a good look at the aircraft available for DCS before purchasing. JG14_Smil Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Try restarting DCS with your saved games folders renamed. It will rebuild the shader's and hopefully fix you up. You can move your important files back in to get your saved options back.

Sn8ke_iis Posted September 9, 2018 Posted September 9, 2018 Other than what was already said, all good troubleshooting steps. Try rolling back your Nvidia driver with a clean installation. Make sure you turn your internet connection and antivirus off as well when trouble shooting. DOUBLE CHECK POWER SETTINGS FOR CPU AND GPU! Make sure they are still on the max performance profiles. When you reinstall it goes back to default. Your cores might be shifting to low power states, you need on demand power for DCS and other high performance apps. Consider separate SSD for OS and games, it makes reinstallation troubleshooting less time consuming. I forced my build of Windows into a metered connection update loop to prevent updates. All their new "features" that we don't use just break legacy software. I'm happily using Win 10 1511 on my rig and couldn't be happier. I have a 3rd party firewall and only game on my rig so security is not an issue. I got sick of chasing gremlins after each windows update. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Hopefully the Vulkan API will make us less dependent on Windows.
River Posted September 9, 2018 Posted September 9, 2018 if it stutters it stutters, new drivers, high performance, etc won't help. just my experience. got a 8700k, 1080ti, 32 gb ram, since yesterdays update stutter. couds, forrest and cities give me stutter. bad optimized period. 4k resolution here....
BitMaster Posted September 9, 2018 Posted September 9, 2018 smooth as butter, locked to 60fps for now to avoid TiR stutter ( Goa's tip ! ).
