Best/Most used helicopter for multiplayer?

I was just curious what helicopters would be the most useful or most used in multiplayer? I'm able to cold start and fly (just about) most of them at this stage but I'm considering taking it to the next level and focusing my efforts on a single helo for a while to see how good I can get with them.

 

The end goal of this would be to jump into some MP and hopefully be of some use. So I was wondering in advance which would helo would be more effective.

If you play on a server with a dynamic mission like BlueFlag, then transport helicopters (Mi-8/UH-1) are very vital where pilots are mostly needed, beacuse most pilots would rather fly the fighter/attacker planes. You can transport troops to capture a base or a FARP, once the strikers have cleared the way.

 

The Ka-50 being so powerful and able to carry 12 Vikhr's makes it just as vital for attacking airbases/FARP's. Unlike Su-25's and A-10's, the Ka-50 if flown well, can hide around or land somewheres until fast movers fly by, before proceeding with the mission. One good Ka-50 pilot and one Mi-8 trailing behind can capture a base all alone.

 

The Gazelles are a bit superfluous really, or so I think, except maybe for the Mistral version. That's like a flying Strela! Very dangerous if flown well. The M version however, with only 4 anti-tank missiles is just unable to cause enough damage. The L and the Minigun versions are something you can probably only use against infantries and soft targets, which is not the common scenario in the target areas on the servers.

I'm leaning towards these two helicopters as well. I'm having a bit of a tough time landing the mi8 but as I said I want to pick one or maybe 2 helos that I can focus some time on to get good with. Its good to know that they are needed in some MP servers, whilst I love flying helo's I hate feeling like a dead-weight to my team.

the huey is the one without any autopilot. or stability assistance.

so if you get good in that all the others become a lot easier to fly. so you can concentrate on their more complex systems.

Huey is flown a lot in MP because it is the most iconic. The flight model is excellent and/but it is very easy to fly, have limited firepower, no navigation systems and generally no complex systems. Hence it is perfect for beginners.

Then you have, with the same ratio, the Ka50 and Mi8. They are operating really well together because they are sharing the same flight envelop (speed wise) unlike the Huey or Gazelle. The Ka50 is pretty easy to fly with all the stabilization systems it uses, but very complex to master system wise, at least if you want to use it to its full potential. The Mi8 is a bit more simple systems wise (but still complex) and a bit trickier to fly. It is a big flying bus but a joy to fly though.

The Gazelle is the latest chopper addition to DCS world. It is the most challenging one to fly. She is a bit like a F1 race car. Since it is less iconic and more challenging to fly, she is not the most popular on MP. With only 4 missiles, there is a need for a flight of 2 to 4 of them to be really effective. But at night, she is deadly and very hard to spot. And she is the only one with thermal targeting sensor and RWR which is priceless.

Flying only which would be the best to learn to fly and hover in then which should be the second and third flying wise not system wise?

i can't find such servers that heli pilots are needed that much.

Public servers are not necessarily offering choppers positions because it is a bit complex to mix fixed wings and rotary wings operations. At least, if you want to coordinate both. And helicopters are not as popular as flying a fast jet. You are better off looking for a helicopter squad in your area.

The black shark and mi-8 work really well in equal amounts 1 ka-50-mi-8, 2ka-50-2 mi-8, etc because the mi-8 is able to fly at ka-50 speedsand the. 50 protects the mi-8 and it’s cargo
