majapahit Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 This can't be right? Edited the default Quick Mission “Caucasus FA-18C Carrier Takeoff.miz” Stennis 15kts Wind 33ft/24kts (1600ft/50kts) Turbulence “3” (whatever that means) results in pretty nice windy sea (‘water’ = “high”), and F-18 loaded with 2 external tanks but 35k lbs, for trap training, but then I noticed Stennis “TS” (True Speed, I’d say, seen when external with a view status bar) Stennis “TS” ‘over ground’ GPS speed = 0kts That’s interesting, not really a problem, but should it be like that? Supposedly ‘wave @ surface, and 24 kts wind pressure’ counteracts a nuclear 15knt Stennis not to move ahead at all? Or the 15kts of Stennis in the ME, enters a ‘power’ factor in the sim rather than a, perhaps unruly, ’boat speed’ parameter .. ? Wadduyouall think, am I missing something? The turbulence is referring to the turbulence experienced in the sim (wind gusts). It is randomized and works in conjunction with your set wind speeds in the sim which is nice since it adds another level of realism to the sim. Few places, if any will you ever experience a constant wind that does not vary in speeds or occasionally gusts. As far as the ship moving, one way to test it is to fly up to the boat then do an active pause just a few feet away. You should see the ship moving forward along its set track assuming that everything is set up properly. Not sure if it doesn't register the ships speed in the ext. view because it's over water, because it is a bug that ED hasn't addressed yet or because in fact it was not moving at the time of the screenshot. I'm going to say that it probably wasn't moving due to the lack of wake at the bow. 15 kts in most missions I've flown usually has waves breaking over the bow and visible when sitting on CAT 1 or 2.
majapahit Posted September 24, 2018 Author Posted September 24, 2018 (edited) Did a repeat, flew along side, active-pause, boat is moving slowly (this time around), not standing still 0kts Outside view shows 11kts (but I think it's moving a tad slower than that). So, it's on and off (which is somewhat weird). Waves look spectacular in High quality by the way, It's not really a problem at all, just weird. <img id="hzDownscaled" style="position: absolute; top: -10000px;"><img id="hzDownscaled" style="position: absolute; top: -10000px;"> Edited September 24, 2018 by majapahit | VR goggles | Autopilot panel | Headtracker | TM HOTAS | G920 HOTAS | MS FFB 2 | Throttle Quadrants | 8600K | GTX 1080 | 64GB RAM| Win 10 x64 | Voicerecognition | 50" UHD TV monitor | 40" 1080p TV monitor | 2x 24" 1080p side monitors | 24" 1080p touchscreen |
Wrench Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 True speed is groundspeed+windspeed. Hence the difference between the two. But is the speed in the ME should give you that groundspeed in the sim for sure. For reference, I wrote a script to deal with carrier's speeds and directions in the missions subforum. Carrier Script.
majapahit Posted September 25, 2018 Author Posted September 25, 2018 True speed is groundspeed+windspeed. Hence the difference between the two. that, I think is for an airplane. this here is TS for a boat, which is GS or GPS speed. then again, perhaps its a DCS thing, but then still, groundspeed+windspeed as wind would add a sum for numbers, and be a large number, which these are not (I have my skipper license) #s3gt_translate_tooltip_mini { display: none !important; } | VR goggles | Autopilot panel | Headtracker | TM HOTAS | G920 HOTAS | MS FFB 2 | Throttle Quadrants | 8600K | GTX 1080 | 64GB RAM| Win 10 x64 | Voicerecognition | 50" UHD TV monitor | 40" 1080p TV monitor | 2x 24" 1080p side monitors | 24" 1080p touchscreen |
