Flappie Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 (edited) I experienced a problem yesterday on version 2.5.3.22176 while using the mighty Mjolnir in an MP game. I was flying straight at Greater Tunb, Persain Gulf, where my target was waiting. I was then flying at 350 meters above the water, at a steady Mach 0.85, with full autopilot on. The QFE was set on 1012.5, and the ground radar was set on ANF mode. Bk-90 was in IMPULSE mode. To my surprise, the BK-90 firing range showed up on the HUD much later than usual, as I was very close to the target (something like 1 km away). As a result, my Mjolnir launchs were initiated too close to the target and they both missed. I tried this twice and had the exact same results. Can you confirm the BK-90 firing range should appear sooner on the HUD, i.e. when the aircraft is 7km away from the target? Did I screw up at some time or what? EDIT: 300m, not feet. Solution: I was flying too slow (850 km/h instead of Mach 0.85). Edited October 3, 2018 by Flappie ---
corvinus Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 I usually fly higher, more like 300 m. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate altitude though, but it works for me. Note that I fly 300 m above the target, not 300 m above the local surface. Sorry, I'm not familiar with the area you are referring to, so I can't tell if you already took care of that.
Flappie Posted October 3, 2018 Author Posted October 3, 2018 My bad. I was flying at an altitude of 300 meters, not feet. Greater Tunb island is a very small and flat island, and my target was very close to the sea. Let's say it was 10m higher than the sea. ---

At that altitude it should work. Did you try the same scenario in the Caucasus?
Flappie Posted October 3, 2018 Author Posted October 3, 2018 Back in 2017, I was used to launch the BK-90 all around the Caucasus, and it worked just fine in SP (and also in MP, when I was hosting). I will give it a try. ---
cro_mig_21 Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 Works super fine in Caucasus since the new BK90 implementation by ED...all three modes work flawlessly and hit on target, provided planning and navigation are executed corectly.
Flappie Posted October 3, 2018 Author Posted October 3, 2018 provided planning and navigation are executed corectly.Hmm, OK. Do you mind sharing your knowledge? ---
Flappie Posted October 3, 2018 Author Posted October 3, 2018 Problem solved. I was flying at 850 km/h, not Mach 0.85. ---
Reefer Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 Like you, I've made the same mistake before. Remember the faster you fly, the more range you get for BK90 release (although only 5-7km @ mach 0.9).
corvinus Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 Problem solved. I was flying at 850 km/h, not Mach 0.85. That's roughly a 20% difference in velocity, so it will certainly make a difference. Glad everything worked out in the end!
IDontLikeBigbrother Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 actually I think the launch authorization IS LATE even you follow the attack speed and altitude. Actually you can launch the bk90 like 5 or 6 seconds before the authorization and the munition still flys to the target and completes the attack.
Reefer Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 I couldn't replicate a launch before HUD authorisation - the missiles won't drop. I don't see anything wrong with BK-90 on SP anyway. You have a track or mission?
