First Impressions of the Hornet+ Straight of Hormuz map

I confess I had purchased both at pre-sales but only this last weekend did I spent time testing both at the same time and all I gotta say is:

WOW, WOW WOW

That was instant gratification.

The Hornet flight model and contrail effects are easily the best I have EVER seen and that is by no means a small feat. Not only I am picky but I also regard sims from the 90's golden age very highly. To me some of those are really hard benchmarks to beat even today.

I always heard and read that the F-18 was an angle fighter due to great low speed aerodynamic authority on those control surfaces. Indeed in the SIM I noticed that below some 320 knots you can yank the nose almost at will into high AOA where the F-15 would just go into a spin. This WILL be handy in air combat, but also a mindset change. No longer will the plane just turn harder. The nose AOA has its own life with the stick travel.

Ever since I saw this in gaming magazines...

...I wanted to fly over a highly detailed city with sky scrapers. When I finally picked up strike commander from the mall back in 1994 and installed the game, only to realize that this map had like 3 buildings and the rest were just flat sprites. So naive. :D

I only had to wait 24 more years to get the real deal. But was it worth the Wait! 8 core CPU's and a top of the line GPU got me sky scrapers all the way to the horizon in high detail at any altitude, and I can fly at street level, or fly a loop over a kilometer high tower (Burj Kalifa). I wonder what kind of radar clutter would it cause for our targeting systems? :D

I am Happy So worth the investment. :)

I opted in a couple days ago on both although my wait was probably closer to 30 years. ;)

It just keeps getting better.

Great stuff.

I am literally living my boyhood dreams flying these wonderful modules in VR. I now have a room in my house where I have 2 PC's one for all this modern stuff. And a retro computer that is full of working retro simulations such as Strike Commander, Tornado, Janes F15 and many others.

Flying simulations from both eras satisfies not only my craving for modern up to date high fidelity flight simulation but really fills the gap of nostalgia. With the massive manuals and big boxes and the physical feeling of buying something with weight.

Well I tell ya it was Longbow 2 that got me hooked...now just waiting on the next Gen of wide FOV and increased resolution virtual head sets, in the meantime learning everything there is to know about the hornet and harrier...getting pretty good at carrier traps and latterly hovering to park ! I figure by the time we get the air/ ground radar and TGP implemented, we'll be on Gen 3 of the virtual headsets :)) Enjoy everyone,

Wait.. So you are telling me that you've had the Hornet and PG for months and only this weekend started to play it? That is impossible!

Yep, but things IRL sucked and kept distracting me away. It should be the other way around. I also invested a lot in my current build and it was until now sitting mostly idle. I hope to justify it now :)
