Angelthunder Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 I recently downloaded DCS World 2.5 and already looking at buying a SSD drive to upgrade so i can add more maps from ED to it.I currently have a Western Digital 120GB SATA SSD in a Ibuypower Trace 940 Gaming Computer with 12GB left. What's the best one to get and can my gaming computer go up to a 1TB SSD.
Angelthunder Posted October 7, 2018 Author Posted October 7, 2018 Samsung EVO 860 series. Is that external or internal SSD and can my gaming computer handle that inside my desktop.
Angelthunder Posted October 7, 2018 Author Posted October 7, 2018 I saw the Samsung Evo 1TB SSD,will that work inside my computer,I have a M2 slot and how much capacity can it take.
BitMaster Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 send us your total and comple PC specs. M2 and M2-NVMe are two different things. You want the NVMe if you go M2 FormFactor. M2 alone is still Sata-3 bound, only a different FormFactor. M2-NVMe is 6x faster than the above. *edit look for vendor and series labelling on the mobo, maybe make a few pics etc... trigen Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 (edited) I honestly dont notice any difference between a normal SSD and a m.2 nvme drive in load times for DCS or anything else for that matter. The rest of the system cant keep up and i got the top of the line stuff. Maybe 5 years from now. Im actually returning my m.2 and pick up SSD's instead so go with SSD if ur upgrading Edited October 7, 2018 by trigen 1080 ti, i7700k 5ghz, 16gb 3600 cl14 ddr4 oc

Im actually returning my m.2 and pick up SSD's instead so go with SSD if ur upgrading M2 sata or M2-NVMe ? M2 alone doesnt say much. Maybe not for DCS but there are many things where a NVMe will outperform a Sata-3 bound SSD. I have mibne on a SSD-Sata3 Raid-0 and it's ok but I would not take my OS off the NVMe again. booting the OS or a virtual machine, working with a virtual machine. full-scanning for viruses deep searching a certain file/content installing/upgrading a new Build of 10 or other big apps. It's not a mile between, but it's present, the gap. ...and no cables, a lot cleaner inside. Can any SSD drive do. If you go with a standard Samsung 860 EVO, you are going to need a sata cable and power lead from your pc power supply. You may already have one? Then you will need to also install the drive. The easiest way for you possibly, is to use just a standard M.2 Sata drive and pop it in, also seeing your motherboard is not nvme. I would get at least a 500GB size. This video below is not the drive I recommended above, it will still install into the motherboard the same way.
