joojoo Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 Hello to everyone! Since I am completely new here I would like to ask some questions about the versions of the DCS. I recently bought the F18 but as I noticed there is not any option about AGM armament in standard version 2.5. As I noticed there is such an option in Open Beta version. So, I would like to ask what is the difference between two versions? Is it necessary to install the Open Beta version and if so the modules and maps that I have already bought will continue to exist or I will have to re-buy them? Thank you in advance!
Etirion Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 The open beta is there to test changes early, you can read a bit more about it here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=222881 No, if you were to install the open beta you wont have to buy any new modules, you log in with the same account and it'll all be there.
joojoo Posted November 22, 2018 Author Posted November 22, 2018 Thank you for your info! So if I install the Open Beta version I will have two different options in order to begin the game from my desktop screen? The release and the Open Beta Version, right?

New additions to the Hornet will always be in the Open Beta version . Thus at this point the Release version only has dumb bombs and unguided rockets for AG . The newly-released weapons are added to the Release (also called "Stable") version 1-4 weeks after appearing in Beta . You can run either version as you wish , and change either to the other at will . All your modules can be used in either version at no additional cost . If you have the storage room , you can dowload both versions . If you are interested in MP , most servers run the Beta . Sniped 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
joojoo Posted November 22, 2018 Author Posted November 22, 2018 Thank you both! Let me ask you something more, What I am supposed to do if in a mission I want from friendly flights to attack in a target that I have preset?
Varis Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 Probably better to pose new questions in a separate thread :-) The idea with new features in open beta first is basically that once ED knows that most people won't be pulling off their hair when they try to use them, they will be in the stable/release version as well. If you want to live on the edge it's possible with the Hornet and open beta since the plane is under heavy development. It can be a good idea to fly a more stable, secondary plane on those days and weeks when the Hornet is broken. It's my approach since I live on open beta (it's used in multiplayer a lot). Oraton Posted November 23, 2018 Posted November 23, 2018 joojoo, I recently switched to the open beta version and found this thread helpful. It was very easy to make the switch. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030 This link will tell you the current versions of both the open beta and the stable game. https://updates.digitalcombatsimulator.com/ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
