nessuno0505 Posted November 23, 2018 Posted November 23, 2018 As in the title. I can hear a background sidewinder searching noise just switching master arm on, even if the sidewinder pilons are not selected. Is this something normal or is it a bug?
Ramsay Posted November 23, 2018 Posted November 23, 2018 (edited) It's normal, AFAIK it's supposed to work like a poor man's FLIR Edited November 23, 2018 by Ramsay i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
Tiger-II Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 It's normal. When you select Master Arm to ON, it powers the missile pylons, and the tone is generated automatically. There is no way to select them. The armament panel has nothing to do with the Sidewinder power to the pylon or tone generation - it only arms the firing circuits - so this is why you hear the Sidewinder tone the entire time Master Arm is ON. It also gives you audible feedback that you have at least one missile on the rail. Both seekers when caged are pretty much looking at the same area (split by the wingspan), so they will both see a target pretty much at the same time. Source for this knowledge? It contradicts available documentation, as in "The audio tone of either missile is activated or shut off by the corresponding wingtip armament position selector switch without arming the missile. With both wingtip switches up, only the tone from left missile is audible."
Tiger-II Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 I read somewhere that the tone is audible any time an AIM-9 is on the rail and master arm is ON. The logic being if you're in the middle of a bombing run you don't want to guess if you've got a missile for defense given there is no indication of a missile on the pylon in the cockpit. dolfo Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 This was discussed some time ago: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=197627 Yes I did write about it some time ago. And nothing in that post supports your statement.
Tiger-II Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Right... so regardless of real-world docs, we agree to disagree? I seem to recall it used to be based on pylon selection in the sim, but it has been too long since I last flew it to remember.
