philstyle Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 Hi A4 users, I have some questions, mainly about how the AI behaves when flying the A4: 1. What setting can I sue to get th AI to fly straight into a target, drop ALL bombs in one pass, and then depart. They always seem to want to go around in circles in a drawn-out pattern over the target, dropping only two bombs each run. 2. The AI wing men will never turn their nav lights off. Is there a way to get them to shut their external lights off, once airborne? On YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/philstylenz Storm of War WW2 server website: https://stormofwar.net/
Don Rudi Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Hi, make sure to place the waypoint well ahead of the target. If the waypoint with the triggered action is too close they'll fly a pattern. It is also useful to assign an attack heading in the options. Type and amount of bombs can also be selected in the attack options. Use for instance bombs - iron bombs and QTY FULL weapons load. So they will drop all bombs on the first pass. Stonehouse Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 I believe they need to be the same type of bomb as well. Hypothetical example: if you have 1000lbers and 500lbers on the aircraft then you will only be able to drop one type at one advanced action point even if you say bombs and all. The ones that drop first will be the ones on the lowest numbered pylon and it's mate on the other wing. This was the issue I had with the DC3 cargo mod where I wanted to be able to drop say ammo and medical A5 containers on the one advanced action point and it would only drop the first. In the end I changed the set up of the mod so you couldn't have a mixed load-out as it made it simpler for users and from a support viewpoint. It's something I think ED needs to address for the Mossie and A20 and generally for WW2 bombers as they often carried mixed loads of incendiaries and HE all dropped on the same point.
philstyle Posted December 4, 2018 Author Posted December 4, 2018 Thanks chaps for the feedback.. I'm assigining the AI with a small load (testing of only one bomb type, either 2x or 6x of them) so loadouts shoult not be a problem. I have tried a couple of various length "lead ins" to the target with waypoints, but I'm not getting consistent results. Interestingly, If I just have a single A4 in a mission with no other aicraft about, it will run in with a very short waypoint length and drop two bombs (whether armed with 2 or 6 bombs) in a relatively stright approach and exit. However as soon as I add other aircraft into the nearby sky, they seem to want to delay and do odd set-ups before attacking.
