Flanker 2.51 question

If I install Flanker with the option for other voodoo cards when all I have is this, what, exactly gets installed?? This was the only way I could get this thing to install on my rig.

Once upon a time, a long time ago, I knew the answer to that question.

 

 

There were two Flanker 2.5 updates . . . one for the Voodoos 1, 2, and 3, and one for every other card.

 

There was one Flanker 2.51 patch.

 

 

I have a faint memory of the Voodoo-specific update being something to do with a peculiarity in the way the Voodoo cards handled textures.

 

Anyone remember the real answer?

 

 

I'd guess the "other cards" option would make the most sense for a Radeon . . .

I never got around to trying out Flanker 2.51 properly, but at a guess was it the GLIDE thing for 3dfx?

There are 3 options for install, voodoo 1, 2, 3 and all others. I had to use voodoo 1 for installation...Now I dont know what exactly gets installed, or if there are settings saved for it. Guess Im asking what to expect if I installed it as a voodoo.

 

Its been a long night having to reformat my hard drive...vista, for what its worth, isnt much of a forgiving o/s when it comes to reinstalling from scratch. Started around 830 last night when I got home from school up till 530am when I finally started to install my programs.

Ahhhh . . . . that makes more sense. Oh, 3dfx, how we miss thee . . .

 

So the Voodoo installation will render in Glide, and the others in DirectX?

So really you want the other one if you can get it working.

 

 

What's stopping you installing the "other cards" patch, btw?

Because there was a glitch with the game interface whereby you couldn't see text in Flanker 2.5 with FSAA on. Turn if off and the text reappears.

Install, and I know what glitch you are referring about...but it wouldnt let me select the button for all other for some reason, just for the voodoo card only.

I have two patches - one dedicated exclusively to Voodoo cards, one for everything else. So a dedicated non-Voodoo patch is available . . . if you can't find one and the Voodoo version doesn't work, let me know and I'll try and get it to you.

There were actualy 3 Flanker 2.5 patches- voodoo 1,2,3, voodoo 4,5 and others. BTW I have them all :D The Voodoo patches are a bit larger, AFAIK voodoo cards can't handle textures larger than 256x256 pix. I had a Voodoo 3 AGP card for Flanker and it was really wierd stuff. No matter what options I've set for terrain- Low, Medium, High- it was loading textures only from the Medium folder.
