Teriander Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 When I used to play Falcon 3 decades ago, there was an external view that was extremely awesome. The ability to view from your aircraft to an incoming SAM missile. But DCS does not have this cool view. Can we have this please??? Imagine having a camera outside of the cockpit tracking an incoming missile. This is extremely helpful for those who want to learn how to avoid SAMs or needs help doing so with an external view. Currently this is not possible.
SharpeXB Posted December 24, 2018 Posted December 24, 2018 Labels work for practice. For realism you need to see its boost and use your RWR i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5
Teriander Posted December 24, 2018 Author Posted December 24, 2018 Labels work for practice. For realism you need to see its boost and use your RWR But this isn't a solution. The external view Im speaking of will lock the camera onto a SAM so you can keep your hands on the joystick to take evasive actions. Even as the missile flies passed danger close, the camera follows it. Without this, you would have to watch the SAM by manually moving the camera with your mouse or Track IR. Not an effective method. They already have a camera for SAM to Player, but not Player to SAM.
GGTharos Posted December 24, 2018 Posted December 24, 2018 The solution is to have knowledge of evasive procedures and track that SAM from inside the cockpit with your TIR while executing your evasion. I have nothing against the camera view, but let's not pretend it teaches you anything. You'll be lost the moment you jump into a mission that has these views disabled. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

Well it has seriously helped me when I played Falcon and this view was available. I guess this is a "Don't knock it till you try it" moment. As for tracking from inside the cockpit, that's a more advance approach and I'm merely referencing another external view option among the many other external view options.
SharpeXB Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 External views are not very realistic for a sim. Just practice threat avoidance with labels and then without. IRL you couldn’t see a small SAM after its boost phase. First tip is to watch the plume and if it’s stationary on your canopy it’s tracking you. All the real procedures are obviously done from the cockpit view. i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5
Tom Kazansky Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 you know there is a padlock view to all missiles and one to the top threat? those might help for training. you won't find too many mp servers with pad lockview enabled ;)
