Casimir06 Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 I've hunted through the forums for an answer to this, and found quite a few posts that reference one thing or another but don't really state - in a definitive way - how to do it. I'm working on a multiplayer mission and would like the player client planes (in this case, F18s) to spawn on the USS Stennis, cold, and on the elevators. So far, I have not had any success in making this happen. I've tried "Takeoff from Ramp" but that puts the client planes spawning in the middle of the carrier, not on the elevators. I've also seen posts that reference an "auto" when putting a plane on the carrier - I have no idea what this means (specifically referencing this post), as there is no "auto" anywhere in either the Waypoint Type or Parking drop down menus for the plane group. Someone told me to put the planes near the carrier and then select "Takeoff from Ramp" and then drag them onto the carrier - but when I select "Takeoff from Ramp" the planes immediately snap directly onto the CAT... and then snap back to the CAT when I try to drag them to an elevator (or anywhere else on the deck). The frustrating thing is that I know it can be done, because I recently played a multiplayer mission where all of us (4 F18 pilots) spawned on the elevators instead of the CATs or the center of the deck. However, I also know that this mission was created several months ago. Has something changed recently in the ME that makes this currently not possible anymore? Or am I (most probably) missing something somewhere? Any help would be immensely appreciated.

When you play a multiplayer mission, a track of it gets recorded on your own PC. You can change the track's suffix from .trk to .miz and then take a look at it on the Mission Editor to see how it was built .. here is a YT tutorial on how to do it: s3G5NsVjH7k (I do miss Banjo's content, I'm still a subscriber of his channel and hope for a comeback :) ) For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
Casimir06 Posted December 27, 2018 Author Posted December 27, 2018 That's really good info - I had no idea that the track was saved after the mission ended. I managed to grab the track in question and examine it... but that has left me even more confused. All the client F18s in that mission are set for "Takeoff from Ramp," just as mine are. The only difference is that they are not set as a group - each client plane is its own group. Could that be the difference? I don't see how that would change anything, but admittedly I'm rather a newb at the DCS mission builder.

Look inside the folders within the .miz file, as some of them can have the .lua scripts that the mission uses; most likely this is a functionality attained by the use of some scripting. I'm not versed on scripting, so cant give more specific advice. feefifofum Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018  You are overcomplicating this a bit much. No .lua or file extension wizardry is required. If players are in the slots before the mission unpauses, they will appear in the middle of the deck. If you unpause first, they will appear on the elevators. For MP, it is generally recommended to have players occupy slots AFTER the mission unpauses due to desynchronization issues. It is also recommended to have each player in their own group because several scripts (CSAR/CTLD/EWRS to name a few) won't work properly with multi client groups, and AI JTACs wont talk to anyone but the flight lead. Casimir06 Posted December 29, 2018 Author Posted December 29, 2018  You are overcomplicating this a bit much... Hi, and thanks. I realized what my issue was after some discussion with a friend, and it was as you say. I was trying to test the mission in single player mode, so naturally I would always spawn in the middle of the deck as there's no way to un-pause the sim before you spawn in. I was doing everything right (i.e., Takeoff from Ramp, etc.) otherwise. Once I realized that, and set up a server so I could test it, it worked just like I expected it to (and as you stated above). I was wracking my brains to figure out what I was doing wrong, and yes - I was over complicating it big time. :megalol:
