Texas Hood Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 So I got a Oculus Rift for Christmas and it seems to work for the most part. I can play some missions and campaigns but I am having a terrible time seeing the text on the console and seeing objects over .5 km away. I know there is a setting somewhere but I just can't find it. I am looking for a direction to go at this point. I have spent the last 4 days looking through various post and hundreds of searches here and other locations. I also notice that when I change settings in DCS nothing changes to the display, i find this very weird but I am new to VR so not sure what that is about about. I was making small changes at first then I decided to just use the pre-selected low, med, high, and VR settings and absolutely nothing changed. Any help please, thank you for taking the time to read. i7 5820k 16gb ram GeForce GTX 1080Ti 12gb 1Tb SSD Ryan
uri_ba Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 set pixel density in the VR settings to 1.5, your card can handle it, the graphics settings are not lined to the resolution. However start with "VR" preset and tweak afterwards. As suggested, pump up the pixel density thing, Im currently running 1.5 with a subpar graphic card compare to yours. Remember once in cockpit, move your position forward with "RCtrl + RShift + NumPad /" so you are closer to the frontal panel. Also try in "Settings-VR options" changing the IPD value, it´s like a "World scale" thing, I play with 45. Be careful with extreme values. Don´t hesitate asking for help ;) i5 8400 | 32 Gb RAM | RTX 2080Ti | Virpil Mongoose T-50 base w/ Warthog & Hornet sticks | Warthog throttle | Cougar throttle USB | Orion 2 throttle base w/ Viper & Hornet grips| VKB T-Rudder Mk IV | Oculus Rift S | Buddy-Fox A-10 UFC | 2x TM MFDs & 1x WW DDI | 2x Bass shakers | SIMple SIMpit chair | WW TakeOff panel | Andre JetSeat | WW Hornet UFC | WW Viper ICP FC3 - Warthog - F-5E - Harrier - NTTR - Hornet - Tomcat - Huey - Viper - C-101 - PG - Hip - SuperCarrier - Syria - Warthog II - Hind - South Atlantic - Sinai - Strike Eagle - Phantom - Mirage F1 - Afghanistan - Irak
Texas Hood Posted December 30, 2018 Author Posted December 30, 2018 Thanks for your response gentlemen. Yea I just retried what you have mentioned, but it did not have an effect on anything, that is what strikes me odd. I will try and attach a couple of photos.
eaglecash867 Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 (edited) Did you click on the VR tab all the way to the right on the top of the settings screen? Your screen shots just show you changing graphics settings. Go to the VR tab and you should see your pixel density setting, which defaults to 1.0. Set it for 1.5 and you'll see a lot of improvement in the clarity of the image. You can slowly ramp that setting up from there until you get a good balance between frame rates and clarity. I'm running 2.0 right now, with an IPD of 72. Texas Hood Posted December 30, 2018 Author Posted December 30, 2018 Thank you for your reply. It actually started at 1.0 as you said, those pictures were at 1.5 I have taken it from 1 to 2.5 and still no change.

eaglecash867 Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Sorry to hear that, Texas Hood. The biggest problem with us trying to help you troubleshoot VR problems is that they really don't show up in screenshots. We can't see what you're actually seeing in the HMD, otherwise we'd probably be able to say "Oh that! I had that issue too, and this is how you fix it." Just keep at it. Eventually you'll figure out what's going on, and it'll be worth all of the trouble. Texas Hood Posted December 30, 2018 Author Posted December 30, 2018 Thanks yall. Yea I noticed the pictures dont show it after I posted them, double the blurry and that's what I see. If I zoom in then I can read the words a lot better. I do love the VR aspect, I have literally done movies in the aircraft then lost my breath. It seems like there is some other software that us taking control of the settings from DCS. My DCS is stand alone but I have read people are suppose to use steamVR at the same time, is that true? Does anybody know if there are settings inside the Oculus system, I can't seem to find anything except the debug program which doesnt seem to do anything either.
eaglecash867 Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 If you have SteamVR installed, try uninstalling that and see what that does. All you need for making the Rift CV1 work with DCS is Oculus Home. Now, I do have both installed on my machine and don't have problems, but it would be a good troubleshooting step to try removing SteamVR and see what happens.
