DPS Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Are the heli pads on warships defined as hard surfaces for landing in the same way that runways, roads and carrier decks are? DPS.

One of the TBS vids shows GA wrestling a Ka50 onto a warships helipad. As a rule . . . if the AI can land there, so can you. But then a helicopter can land pretty much anywhere :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
Aeroscout Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Give it a try! DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices
Force_Feedback Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 How about rooftops of moving trains? You know, even though it's a game, it should be realistic, and with all those high fuel prices it wouldn't hurt to travel in comfort, and for free on top of a commuter train. Brit_Radar_Dude Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Are the heli pads on warships defined as hard surfaces for landing in the same way that runways, roads and carrier decks are? DPS. See these old threads about how to edit MEInit to allow AI helo's to operate from more platforms. http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=38610606&m=976105825 (halfway down) http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/38610606/m/502109745?r=502109745#502109745 I think helo's can land on any surface. Back in the day I tried to simulate a heliborne assault on a beach by having AI helo's with minimum fuel starting out at sea at a distance that meant they could just make it to a forced landing near the coastline "feet dry". I managed to make a UH-60, CH-53 and a CH-47 all land within a reasonable size landing zone in a field just inland of the beach a few Km's short of Kerch-Bagerovo. CH-47 went about 60nm, UH-60 about 50nm and CH-53 about 45nm. A long time since I did this as I mentioned, I seem to recall that I had them flying straight at an airbase, as if I did not then they would try to divert toward a base and end up ditching at sea. DPS Posted July 7, 2007 Author Posted July 7, 2007 Landing the A-10 on the Ticonderoga seems to be do-able. I can get the model onto the heli deck with a hurricane on the nose, but it then just sinks gracefully through and explodes. With damage detection switched off it just bounces through the ship and back into the gale.

Sick idea, with a hurricane headwind, but still :P How about the Su-25T, or is it the same as with bridges, sinking through the surface, burning engines, KIA pilot, and then *kaboom*?
