whiskeywhiskey Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 1080ti, 6700k, 32g ram, 850pro sata ssd, Vive Pro HMD I'm getting these purple lines in the SteamVR frame timing graph that correspond to little stutters that are most obvious when turning my head. My frame timing is fairly good, from 10.5ms to 12ms looking at cities, but these spikes are always there. First shot is flying, looking at reasonably uncluttered area What's weird is, they're always there, even in the menu, but they go away if I alt-tab out of DCS. Second shot is in the main menu, 4.5ms frame times I've unplugged everything USB, I've killed background tasks with wild abandon, I've updated gpu drivers... about the only thing I can think to do is flatten windows and start over, and I'm trying to put that option off as long as possible. Any suggestions?
hansangb Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 If you alt tab out, then come back in, the stutters are gone? Is that what you mean? hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
whiskeywhiskey Posted January 3, 2019 Author Posted January 3, 2019 If you alt tab out, then come back in, the stutters are gone? Is that what you mean? no, I mean while DCS is unfocused, the purple lines in the frame timing graph disappear. When tabbing back in, they're there again.
Headwarp Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 Have you noticed the weather in the missions you're flying when you're doing this? High cloud density causes stuttering on my rig. I would think that's the expected behavior, no? I don't know what settings, PD/SS you use. But start by decreasing the workload on your CPU/GPU. Shadows for example absolutely eat FPS. I think the stuttering going away when you tab out of DCS is a red herring. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

Nominally I'm running PD 1.0 and 140% in steamvr, and the workload seems reasonable, 60-70% GPU load and ~80% on one core CPU, and I've tried running 1.0/100% with the same results. I can even run 1.0/200% and my frame timing is ~13ms or so but still with the purple lines. The fact that it's happening at the main menu as well with basically zero load makes me think it's unrelated to graphics settings.
