Bloodhound57 Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 In what scenario would a real-world F/A-18C pilot use the SP mode? Is it used when something has locked up the aircraft or fired on it? Wouldnt that be considered a TOO? Thanks guys. Also, thank you to Engineer #? for getting this to us. QuiGon Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 (edited) In what scenario would a real-world F/A-18C pilot use the SP mode? Is it used when something has locked up the aircraft or fired on it? Yes Wouldnt that be considered a TOO? No, TOO mode will not be used in self defense. TOO is used against radar contacts that are not known beforehand. It will use the missiles seeker to detect and assign them, unlike in SP where the RWR is used for target assignment. Madbrood Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 SP mode (as shown in Wags' latest video) allows the pilot to select and engage radars as they show up on his RWR. SP Pullback will allow release of a HARM against a radar which is actively guiding a weapon against ownship, regardless of what mode you're currently in - as long as Master Arm is in ARM. It's like Ronseal - it does what it says on the tin! SP Pullback can be overridden to allow prosecution of other targets if desired. i7-4770k | EVGA GTX 980 SC | 16GB DDR3 | TrackIR 5, TM Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals DCS: F-16C, F/A-18C, F-14A/B, AV-8B, FC3, A-10C, Black Shark II, UH-1H, F-86F, MiG-21bis, Mirage 2000C, AJS-37, F-5E :pilotfly:
