I finished building my custom upgrade to the X52 Throttle. Pretty much all new high quality parts as well as a HALL Effect for the throttle position. Also includes a mini thumb joystick for the strafing requirements. I will be updating my blog when I install it in my simpit.

That top rotary looks nice.

Both of mine have a blank spot in exactly the same place.

Would you mind going into more detail on how you did all this.

I am still working on updating some of my games at the moment. This is a pretty intense upgrade that requires some good fabrication skills. Basically tear all the electronic guts out of the X52 and mount the new parts. I used a hot melt glue gun for that. I had an old CH Product Pro Throttle that I took the grey HAT switch as well as stripping the cable to use the small wire for all the connections. Figuring out how to connect the scroll wheel (which is nothing but an encoder) to the BU0836X 12-Bit Joystick Board. I used a Dremil and some step drills to modify the handle. One of the more difficult tasks was to grind the shaft of the HALL Effect pot to match the throttle pot and get it mounted in place. It was a lot of work overall but I have been doing these kind of projects all my life as well as my career.

Also remember I use this throttle by itself. I do not use the X52 stick and after the MOD it would no longer be usable as it normally plugs into the throttle base. I only wanted the mechanics of the throttle.

Nice work on re-work of the X52 (been thinking on similar for an X52Pro/X55 for a while). Did you get the thumb wheel working yet and is it the original from X52?

I used the scroll wheel from the X52 as it was just an encoder and the back silver HAT switch but the rest is new. The so called mini stick has been replaced with a real mini joystick.

Amazing upgrade, congratulations! What did it take to convert that hall effect sensor to the x52 shaft? Some sanding, or just removing/replacing their shaft? I managed to get a couple of those and thought I better ask you first. 🙂

I noticed you used a 60 degree hall sensor. Would it be better to use a 90 degree one and limit it via the software?

Also, can we use any hall sensor pot, or do only certain types work?
