Maybe the pitbuilders corner was too special for this question and someone of the broader pulic knows an answer:

From the very start, I've been flying the A-10C, FA-18C (Falcon F-16 earlier) with my TM Cougar, later with my TM Warthog , always with a grip twist of about 15° counterclockwise. It still feels very natural for me.

But after scanning through some youtube movies, I saw a guy (Sting TV, installing an Virpil extension in his FA-18 cockpit, while also having that stick twist to the left.

So far, so good.

What made me think, was the F-18 stick handle he showed at 0:21. The grip itself was twisted, but the part that connects to the base was straight. That gives the impression, that steering input is still aligned with the "cardinal" axis of the plane.

Finally, here is my question: is the movement of the A-10 (where the stick is also twisted to fit the ergonomic needs of a center stick) still straight forward and perpendicular to the length axis of the airframe or does the whole stick need to be moved at those counterclockwise 15° ?

I hope I could make clear, what troubles my mind

If I gather what you're asking, the stick itself moves parallel and perpendicular with the aircraft, only the grip itself should be "canted".

I think with the TMWH, if you don't have an extension to allow you to cant the grip, you can rotate the whole base and use the TARGET software to compensate for the base misalignment relative to the aircraft.

Thank you Deezle, as I already have an extension installed, I will have to turn back the base tomorrow. Already excited how my muscle-memory will react to that.

Maybe just like a brand new start!

I just watched a video where someone did something like this. Don't remember who it was. The stick and base was Warthog, but the short extension (really just a piece of threaded pipe) was made by Virpil. The base didn't move. The axes all remained the same. The only thing that changed was the angle of the grip to make it more comfortable in the hand.

I just started using Monstertech supports for my Warthog stick and throttle (finally have the stick between the knees instead of up on the desk) and through trial and error, I think I’m at about 10° of rotation counter clockwise so that pulling straight back stays in line with my forearm as my elbow rests on the arm of my chair.

Yes, I guess that was the video, I mentioned in the first post, STING TV is the name of the channel.

After turning back my stick base and adjusting the grip to about 12° couunterclockwise, it still feels right and natural, my movements are adopting very quick. the degree of rotation may differ a bit with the distance between the body and stick/ shoulder width.

That's the way I flew for the last couple of years, it felt good as well.

IIRC, the real aircraft has the stick at 15 degrees CCW. This should be true for any center mounted stick, IRL. However, an individual pit/person might find slightly different numbers to work well for them.
