I've been tweaking my VR settings over the past couple days, and one thing I can't get rid of is the initial massive stuttering when first loading into a mission.

Is this just something that happens to everyone? Is there any way to mitigate it?

I find that if I run a mission, look around a while inside the cockpit, quit the mission and re-run it the initial stutter is lessened but still there.

After about 20-60 seconds the stutter stabalizes. I assume it is due to assets streaming into memory.

This is on a 1070ti, i7 7770 with 16 gigs of RAM.

Hey buddy,

I have the same with my oculus rift.

What I do : I remove my Rift and make it looks away from the sensors for 20 secondes then put it back on my head ...

and voila .... stuttering are gone.

Also don't forget to look at your nvidia settings (Nvidia control panel) > Manage 3d settings

look for : "Virtual reality pre-rendered frame" and set it to 3.

This will surely help.

See ya !

Hi Guys, same here with my Rift.

It helps to get with cntrl 1 (Numpad) out of ASW, the Return to ASW with cntrl 4 and everything running smooth.

This usually helps me too.

keep in mind that adding extra pre-rendered frames introduces extra latency.

setting it to x. means you could be seeing the action x-1 after it happened.

depending on what you fly and and what you do, it may not matter... or it might.

What do you guys mean when you say stuttering?

I have an up to date version of DCS and when I get into the cockpit with the rift I get really bad stuttering as I move my head around. It's like a blurry mess that seems too occur as I'm moving my head, is this what you mean?

I don't know if it clears up as I quit out as soon as this happens as it makes me feel sick. Some times it doesn't start until I've taken off but that's very rare, and once only I managed a hole mission without it happening. The funny thing is I have an older version installed, from about three months ago that runs fine so I keep going back to that. This is going to be a Problem for me when the F14 comes along that I've paid for and I can't fly!!

I'm not 100% sure exactly how it works, I've got mine set either to 2 or 3 currently. But I think it mainly helps if the scene isn't changing too much and gives you a bit of buffer against frame drops for whatever reason. I'm usually not making wild swings of my head (unless dogfighting) when flying or doing ground attack. For me going from 1 to 3 improved "smoothness".

Yeah, thats generally the phenomenon I'm talking about. Its not exactly blurry though. What sort of system you running?

Initial VR load-in frame stutter

yes it will make it smoother when your system can’t keep up. i was just pointing out that you are trading latency for smoothness.

if that’s an issue you can always turn down the graphics settings

Odd I do not experience that stuttering myself.

Probably your beastly rig ;)

Lol but I did not have it with my previous i7 4820k rig either.

yeah I have it too, removing head set and putting it back on fixes it every time. Someone more techy can probably figure out why but that fixes it for me.
