hansangb Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Well you sure can't be that price! I paid $109 USD through B&H Photo - I've never done business with them before. They had used Explorers rated in excellent condition for as low as $77 USD, but these no longer have the factory warranty as they are pre-owned. Like you, I consider it an inexpensive first step into VR just to see what its all about. The Explorer doesn't come with hand controllers but flight sims are the only games I play so I don't think I'll need those anyway. Looking forward to giving it a try! Thanks for the tips; I'll get Steam and SteamVR installed today. B&H is an icon in New York City. oboe Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 (edited) B&H is an icon in New York City. Mad nice storefront to boot. +1 for B&HPhoto - fast shipment, great price. The Explorer arrived yesterday. I've got it up and running now (thanks for the tips, Razi). I'll post my questions/problems/comments in another thread when I have more experience but in a nutshell, I now think of VR as an absolute game-changer. I have never felt more like I was inside a jet's cockpit. It's just wild to lean over and peer down over the side of the cockpit. I've not had a problem with nausea before, even when I made the switch to TrackIR from hat-switch views, but pulling tight turns and barrel rolls in the F-5 around the Nevada mountains can make a flash of wooziness sweep through my head. Even with the low resolution and noticeable screen door effect, flying through low clouds and looking the the ground matches my limited experience in real aircraft amazingly well. GTFreeFlyer Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 This must be specific to the Explorer? I’ve never had to touch the IPD setting. It is unchecked. I have the Rift. The scale feels very realistic to me. Everything in the right spot. I have the Warthog HOTAS and if I look at the throttle and then move the Rift up and down repeatedly so that my eyes see VR, reality, VR, reality, and so on... then there is no difference in appearance, location or size other than the obvious digital vs actual look. It’s crazy.
