The Falcon Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 When I read the technical sheet of the various products (aircraft) of DCS, I see written in some, professional flight model, in other, advanced model of flights, and in others still, realistic flight model. So I wanted to know what the difference between the three is.

grunf Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Thx some doubts remain regarding the EFM and AFM + EFM simply means it's done by 3rd party dev, not ED. It doesn't say anything about its quality or complexity.
Zius Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 EFM simply means it's done by 3rd party dev, not ED. It doesn't say anything about its quality or complexity. From the FAQ: Used by our partner developers, the EFM uses only a part of PFM - rigid body physics and contact model. What forces and moments are applied to this rigid body from aerodynamics and any other sources except the contact forces is up to EFM developer. My understanding is that EFM should be close to PFM, including out-of-envelope flight, by applying CFD calculations. However the EFM is proprietary to the 3rd party and therefore possibly not known to ED, as I don't think the 3rd party have to share the source code with ED. Therefore ED can't make sure that EFM exactly equals PFM apart from flight testing and seeing if the performance in DCS matches the official manuals as far as made publically availalble. For instance, according to Dolphin887 of Magnitude3's, who is a MiG-21 pilot in the Serbian Air Force, the MiG-21 module is being compared to actual training flight telemetry to ensure correct behaviour. Modules: Bf 109, C-101, CE-II, F-5, Gazelle, Huey, Ka-50, Mi-8, MiG-15, MiG-19, MiG-21, Albatros, Viggen, Mirage 2000, Hornet, Yak-52, FC3
Mars Exulte Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 The last SFM was replaced with the MiG-29 and C-101 update. PFM is the ideal, fully modeled and simulated item, with things like sloshing fuel etc apt to be simulated. EFM is just a 3rd party flight model. Typically equivalent to a PFM, the technical details can vary a little based on what developer chose to do. AFM is a now discontinued fm that was a precursor to the PFMs we have now. AFM+ is an even later flight model preceding the current PFM, and according to one dev (I don't remember which one now) is largely synonymous with PFM (ie different term for the same thing, possibly). Virtually all the aircraft are PFM or the third party equivalent EFM (same thing for practical purposes). Potentially two-three AFM/AFM+ aircraft (Su-25T and A-10A.... MAYBE Su-25A I don't remember) for all intents and purposes, on your end there is little or no difference between an AFM and PFM. Tldr: it's not really something to worry about, it's not a case of this or that being inferior. PS A commonly disparaged but untrue belief regarding the Flaming Cliffs aircraft is that they have an inferior or simplified flight model. This is untrue. The flight model of the F-15 is as advanced as the A-10C/F-18. It's the SYSTEMS and avionics that are simplified. Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2

I had understood that the term PMF also meant avionics etc. but I was insecure that the flight model of non-PFM was inferior or unrealistic. I asked thinking about the C-101 that if I'm not mistaken is EFM. At this point I think the only model with an unrealistic fm is the hawks.
