Zoltar Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 I was flying a practice mission for identifying and destroying convoys and with the help of RBKs wiped out 8 out of 10 tanks of a T-80 convoy. However, the remaining 2 tanks still pressed against the heavily defended enemy armour and BMP columns and attacked them. The result was expected as they got waxed in few seconds. I don't think such suicidal attempts are made in real life.. I think there should be some threshold where the attacking armour won't be effective and turn back especially against heavily defended targets like airbases, command centers or convoys which outnumber the attackers by huge margins..What you guys say?? Is this a feature worth for BS ??
Witchking Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 lol! well....Lock on's ground vehicle AI is far from perfect or "realistic". It is on the list of "PROBABLY" might be worked on for BS. I guess we just have to wait and see. Highwayman-Ed Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 A lot of us are hoping for some triggers and logic (if, then, else) kind of stuff in the new ME... for now (if we get it), you just have to script it and watch the mission you've built over and over again until you consistently get the desired outcome that you want if YOU had not been there (i.e. your forces get beaten), then add yourself in as a player and go... Can be frustrating, but also rewarding when you get it right.. check out my campaign for the A-10 I recently made. Particularly missions 5 and 10 for this kind of scripting with ground AI... http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=24323 The only down side to making these missions however is that after spending so much time planing and watching and tweaking and watching again, you kind of know everything that's going to happen... Fingers crossed for BS! Weta43 Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 I don't think such suicidal attempts are made in real life.. That all depends how desperate you are doesn't it ? I agree though - some of the AI behaviour is mental. Hopefully it gets better in LOBS! (as above - fingers crossed for a few triggers/logic & a nice easy interface) Cheers.
Mike Cinch Perry Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Ok your right in real life they 2 remaining units would do 2 things, 1. Wait for reenforcements to show ip (IE. Air support, or more armor) 2. RTB for further tasking or battle planning. But all in all why worry about the AI ground units to be fixed, they do nothing for your score or to help you in a victory condition, no campaign built in the game! I can under stand it if this happen in like Falcon 4.0 or AF, they have a campaign system and it does help you with your mini war, but as for lockon I really dont see it helping if they fix the AI armor, no AI planes would be a different story! There is more to be fixed that the AI armor for being so stupid! Just my thoughts!! Cinch

Cinch sorry mike but for us ground pounders the Ground AI is essential and has a big influence on how missions and which missions can be designed and played. :pilotfly: NotiA10 CoolerMaster HAF RC-932 - Intel Core i7 950 - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R - Kingston DDR3 6GB - Gigabyte Radeon HD 5870 EF 6 Edition - Western Digital 640GB SATA-III - CoolerMaster 700W - TrackIR Pro 4 - Saitek X52 - Saitek Rudder Pedals - Hotas Warthog
Mike Cinch Perry Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 First of all, I love the A-10 and the the mud moving, but how does fixing the AI armor from pressing towards the enemy to just die, look at it this way, you have more weapons to take out other units!!!
NotiA10 Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 its not just about taking out units - yes this could be one target - the other though could be to protect your own units and a goal could be "x numbers of your units must survive" hence ground AI is important. it is this aspect of "survivability" which adds to the game play experience for both A2G and A2A. :pilotfly: NotiA10 CoolerMaster HAF RC-932 - Intel Core i7 950 - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R - Kingston DDR3 6GB - Gigabyte Radeon HD 5870 EF 6 Edition - Western Digital 640GB SATA-III - CoolerMaster 700W - TrackIR Pro 4 - Saitek X52 - Saitek Rudder Pedals - Hotas Warthog
Zoltar Posted July 27, 2007 Author Posted July 27, 2007 it is this aspect of "survivability" which adds to the game play experience for both A2G and A2A. I totally agree with NotiA10. If the goal is to just take out units, the only tactical flying left is to fly "kamikaze" missions and ram ur jet into the units causing destruction. But then where is the fun. The one who survives the day has chance to win the war next day. Just my thoughts...though ;)
Force_Feedback Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 They should fix the anti tank guided missiles, add them to a few tanks for example (barrel launched missiles for the T-80) and add more vehicles with missiles (I think they did that for BS, with Western IVCs and HMMVs). Also they should add the Khrizantema system so the virtual enemy can run and cry like girls after their tank batallion got wasted by 4 Khrizantema vehicles :P Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
brewber19 Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Ah, the balanced view of a pure A2A virtual pilot :( As others have mentioned, us "poorer cousins" who move mud strongly disagree with that statement. The AI is as dumb as ditch water and needs as much attention to improve ground attack simulation just as chaff/missile behaviour needs attention to improve the A2A experience. Remember, there are at least two parts to this sim, A2A and A2G, where you fighter ppl simulate air dominance and we bomber people simulate terrain control. Without us your mission would be pointless...and without you our mission would be unachievable - I believe they call it "synergy"...or "mutual support". Given some of your recent posts, a more balanced view point might get more positive and constructive feedback, or have more people support your point of view! There is more to be fixed that the AI armor for being so stupid! Just my thoughts!! Cinch 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 487th Helicopter Attack Regiment, of the VVS504 Red Hammers
