PythonOne Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 I was just wondering what SAM sites do you boys usually go against when you edit a mission. For example, you are flying a MiG-29, so you are not on a strela hunt or anything. Which SAM sites are the hardest to evade and which one is the easiest. I was thinking about a mission where i can test my skills dodging these missiles.
PythonOne Posted July 28, 2007 Author Posted July 28, 2007 Well since I'll be flying the mig, i'll be going against mainly american sam sites, do you have any comments about that? Like which one should i have fun toying around. Also, i won't be flying at their max range, i want to be right up in their face because i want to bomb something next to them. So i would literally be flying over them.
Highwayman-Ed Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 TOR's are quite a challenge for ground pounders as the detection range and the launch range are very close, which means that the unit doesn't usually launch (on excellent) at Rmax and you usually have to evade it (at least in a ground pounder) Intel i9-9900KF @5.2GHz MSI Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon 32GB G.Skill Trident Z DDR3200 RAM MSI RTX 2080 Ti Gaming X Trio 40" Panasonic TH-40DX600U @ 4K Pimax Vision 8K Plus / Oculus Rift CV1 / HTC Vive Gametrix JetSeat with SimShaker Windows 10 64 Bit Home Edition [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
golfsierra2 Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Which SAM sites are the hardest to evade IRL it is the SA-10 system. kind regards, Raven.... [sigpic]http://www.crc-mindreader.de/CRT/images/Birds2011.gif[/sigpic]
Force_Feedback Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 We need the S-300V back, with the different missiles moddled, that way it will make all the whiners cry even more. There you are, flying your F-15 (face it, those complain the most), then you see a 'SA-12' symbol appearing, ok, still cool, no launch warning or something. Then half a minute later, beep beep, seconds later: *BOOOM*. And it came from above too :P Tor-M, Buk-M1, the S-300PS, the Patriot with PAC-2 missiles and the Tunguska-M (while stationary) can engage incoming missiles, and have that built into their design. The Kub has it too, but only some upgraded variant, the M2 IIRC. The Strelas, Rolands, Avengers, they all have this handy 'start running, or pop some smoke' kind of solution in real life. However, Strelas and Iglas (so Stingers as well) have proven, in real life, to be able to shoot down cruise missiles, but those fly ~200 km/h slower than a Maverick and are twice, or three times as big. I hope they will fix the Tunguska, because that is the most wrongly moddles SAM, the second stage does not have a rocket motor and is totally smokeless, and the first Stage accelerates it to ~Mach 3 and not Mach 1.8. They have coasting S-300Fs, so making a realistic 9m311M and 9m311K (Kashtan, naval) should not be that hard, as such implementation already exists. What is wrong is that the missile itself homes in on chaff, that is bull as well, unless the vehicle's radar will fall for chaff under 10km :P So, the ideal countermeasure against those should be flares, not chaff. I think we should have the S-300V back, and have that small missile 9m55 or something added :P (Dreams on, and drools like Homer while doing so) Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
Kuky Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 I find that sometimes (maybe it depends on SAM AI level) SAM's fire at R-Max at first but once maybe 2/3 of their missiles are out and without a hit... they start firing at closer and closer range... as if AI knows they need to wait for you to get closer for higher PK... once they get maybe to last 1-2 missiles they will fire at very close range... Cosmonaut Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Low level sam systems are easy to defeat, while flying a Mig, although it's probably more realistic taking them on rather than the Medium to long range SAM sites when flying a Mig29. However a Hawk site is just about right, it's not %100 realistic to go up against that system in a Mig but if your mission was critical and your intel sucked then you might have a go :smilewink: at taking out the Sam site before striking your primary target. This is what I do and its pretty damn fun; set up a mission using the pre-made Hawk SAM site and once your RWR starts to light up go in low, 15 to 25 meters. The Hawk will launch at you but it should detonate soon after it leaves the rails or it will fly right by, either way just stay low until you're very close. My weapon of choice is the PB-250, it has a chute and can be CCRP'd from above 50m alt so once you're close enough just fly up to 50 to 60m and aim for anything that's spinning on the Hawk site and it should knock out the radar, then just move onto your primary or finish off the Hawk site. I also like to carry two S-24 rockets one of which can take out two tanks close together so if you miss on your first pass you can swing around for two more attempts. Other bombs I like to use are the Bet-AB-500ShP, this is one of the most insane weapons in the game, it has two stages after release; first a chute deploys then once over the target rockets fire as it slams in to the target ( if you use it at low level then as soon as you drop it press F3 and watch the rockets kick in :D ) .. My Nickname for it is deep throat ;) heh. Also any bomb that doesn't weigh too much works pretty good too just make sure you can release at low Alt becasue some weapons will only work above 100 or 200 meters which is a fatal altitude against the Hawk.
