timbob67 Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 I've been having a bit of a play in the Flanker this evening, trying some of the training missions, and I'm having problems controlling the pitch of the aircraft. Whenever I let go of the stick, it will gently pitch down into a steady dive, and continue pitching downwards until I pull back gently on the stick to level out. In order to maintain level flight, I have to keep a small amount of pressure back on the stick, which makes following waypoints, and landing next to impossible. It looks like a trim problem, but my trim buttons were totally non responsive and made no difference whatsoever to the pitching down problem. Is this normal Su-27 behaviour, or have I found a bug?!
EvilBivol-1 Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Sorry to disappoint you, but it is perfectly normal Su-27 behavior. :) The plane is not equipped with auto-trim and goes where the aerodynamic forces take it. You can either trim it manually to stay level or hit the 'H' key to engage altitude hold, which will trim the aircraft for the given airspeed. You can then hit it again to disable the mode, but the plane will stay trimmed. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
timbob67 Posted July 28, 2007 Author Posted July 28, 2007 That's the problem - I was fully expecting to have to trim it manually, but my trim buttons didn't make any difference. I could indeed hit H, and the aircraft would stay level, but as soon as I hit H again to disable altitude hold, it would pitch straight down again.
EvilBivol-1 Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Ah, that is strange then. Let's cover the basics: 1) Have you tried it from a new mission, instead of a pre-built training mission? 2) What buttons are you using for trim? - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. zaelu Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Check the trim lights, if the elevator one is not lit then the plane could be "pretrimed" to go down. Try reseting the trims by the appropriate button. Check if you dont have by accident an axis from a joystick or gamepad or something assigned to be trim wheel, if that is "broken" it could continously trim your plane in one direction... in this case... to the ground :). AFAIK Su-33 comes in quick missions pretrimed up a bit, could be the case for Su-27 also but, I didn't checked. Vekkinho Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 I constantly keep my thumb on a trim hatswitch and trim the plane all the time, So if the plane keeps pitching down U'll need to trim it up. Also note that shanging the speed will also affect trims. It's aerodynamics here, more airflow under the wings will pitch your plane up. So Su-27 is manually trimmed so adjust your airspeed and use trimming to keep it leveled. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Pilotasso Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 There is no real auto trim. Even with f-16's you have to trim the aircraft every now and then. .

OK, trying from the basic "free flight" shortcut on the main menu screen seems to work. The 'plane still behaves weirdly in the pre-built training mission, but in a new mission it seems to work fine! I've mapped trim to 4 "up-down-left-right" buttons on the gearstick controller of my Logitech G25 steering wheel, which are right under my left hand (no HOTAS for me yet!), and seem to work fine. Might the training mission anomaly be due to the fact that I'm running the latest patch of FC, and the tracks were recorded using an earlier version? I've experienced strangeness in other training missions due to this...!

Save money for HOTAS like X52 (Pro) ASAP. It's not too expensive in compare to your G25 wheel - $169-183 for PRO version and $96 - $120 for previous version ($220 - $307 for your wheel).
