Link16 SA vs Radar integration questions

Hello all

 

I been wondering if in the future the data shown on the SA page via link 16 would be shown in the radar display even if it not beeing seen by the radar search, or even if its on SIL mode, even better if it would provide the IFF info as different symbology in the radar screen itself as it's beeing tracked and IFFed by other aircraft, as I recall from a different sim that it was a thing unless I am mistaken, I was wondering if it's and early access thing or if the hornet does not have that integration, will it be possible in the future to for instace depress TDC on the SA page and have the radar lock the target instead of keep switching DDIs back and fourth? Better yet replace the radar attk screen compleatly with just the SA page.

 

Also if in the future it would be possible to launch fox 3 at targets provided by other aircraft while having the radar on SIL as a sort of cooperative TWSish thing

 

If I'm wrong on both that, what are the biggest funcionality highlights I should expect from Link 16 once it's compleate?

Yep, just still to be developed.

 

When we have LTWS finished, we'll be able to soft lock two of the bricks on the RWS radar screen and show tracks (i.e. IFF status, contact's bearing, elevation, speed) for them.

 

When we have MSI finished (it's a button on the data sub-page of the radar), we should be able to see the data link tracks we can currently see on the SA page on the RWS radar screen.

 

And once we have TWS, that'll automatically display tracks for the top 8 targets the radar sees (and we'll also have the two things above as well).

From the looks of it, and this may very well be proved to be wrong by someone, the radar through limitation or by choice, doesn’t show uncorrelated tracks on the radar screen. This meaning that it will not show interrogation/datalink symbology on the radar screen for anything it cannot match up to a radar return. Some aircraft can do this, and it would be awesome to have, but it doesnt appear that it’s a capability on the hornet version we have. Again, I may get proven wrong on that, it’s just what I have come to understand.

Wags has mentioned JHMCS with regards to DL before, so there's definitely something to come. Not sure what exact form it'll take but an F-15E pilot was talking about using DL to see the position of wingmen and their distance from you in JHMCS - hopefully we'll get something similar.
