I thought a long time about whether or not to post this, but all feedback is good right?

Think I read recently that the copy protection system for BS was not decided yet. So here I am ED, can you see me? That's right, I'm on my knees begging you, NO starforce, pretty please. It froze up my system again this evening, even causing the task manager to stop responding:(. I'm getting so tired of this.

Guilt by association is wrong I know but even the greatest software (read an ED flight sim) paired with something that makes people recoil is, well lets just say that it's not all it can be.

Ok, so enough with the bashing/whining part of this and on to the good stuff.

Playing on my 42 inch lcd in HD resolution sure is sweet:). Let me say that again...playing on my 42 inch lcd in HD resolution is sweeeet.

I'm really looking forward to BS and judging by the videos I've seen so far its bringing a whole new dimension to this series of games. Just don't package it with something nasty with low level access to my system;).

Can't do any harm to ask for a different copy protection system, whatever your reasons for asking.

I reckon if ED can find something less . . . well, let's say controversial . . . than Starforce that can protect as well from piracy, then they'll probably do it :)

Ultimately, though, if they still consider Starforce the best copy protection system out there, then that's most likely what BS will ship with.

I share your concerns regarding CP software screwing up your system, although its never happened to me, but I also don't like CP software that collects info on my system and doesnt inform me as to what exactly it's doing with it.

One question for you: do you have the downloaded version of FC? I have the CD version and even with my concerns I would still get the CD/DVD of BS even with SF. My fear is that they'll move onto to something else that will have me having to place the CD in the drive every time I want to play instead of the once a week situation FC:CD with SF allows me now.

If things dont change and ED model the release on FC then if you want SF light, get the CD/DVD version but if you have an affront to reaching for your DVD and don't mind a heavier presents of SF, then get the downloaded version.

Cozmo.

I have to agree that I'm not too "thrilled" about starforce either, but i put up with it since its attached to my most favorite game. And yea, i prefer the cd version. The whole activation thing on the download copy seems like you are "borrowing" the game from ED. If the company goes under (god hopes not) or the server is down, or starforce server is down, then you can play anymore. Hopefully the copy protection is change, plus it takes away some of the heat away from this game so more people are willing to buy it. A lot of people hears the word starforce and runs.

What happens if ED for whatever reason stops supporting FC? I know that they're giving away keys when u send them email, but what if, say, a year or two from now, I decide to re-install FC and run out of keys and don't get any replies from them?

This is one of my fears. I also feel as if game I bought is somehow borrowed.

Hope I'm not going to get misunderstood here, just thinking out loud.

I too have the CD version and one check a week sure is better than having to keep the disc in the drive at all times. However I do other things besides play FC on my computer and copying from the drive is much slower with the above mentioned CP system. Disabling and enabling the CP drivers depending on what your doing with your system is not the most thrilling thing to do.

I must admit that I will be getting BS, with or without SF. I, and probably others, will just be a lot happier without.

I'm pretty sure if and when they do decide to do that, they would probably release some sort of patch that might remove SF since their profit is already maximized so they could care less about FC.

Dagger... Do you have an NForce4 board?

I had heaps of trouble with NForce4 but P965 and now it's sibling P35 are doing fine...

Yes, I do have an nForce4 board but I'm dreaming of bigger and better boards since I got my 8800GTS. Maybe when BS is out.

Of course! Everyone gets a say. This was never intended as a SF bashing thread. I get the feeling though that people who play flightsims realize that in order for the genre to survive, you have to support the people who make the games (isn't a flightsim a kind of first person shooter?? I heard those guys were doing quite well:smilewink:).Anyways CP vs units sold is a topic that belongs in another thread I think.
