Paganus Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 I setup front seat controls. I didn't spend a lot of time on it, just the basics. The Axis settings were mostly correct already, so it didn't take long. I jumped into instant action dogfight. Why waste time learning how to fly it first? It starts nose to nose with a Flanker in visual range, but you're already configured for a gunfight. I managed to tell Jester to jet the bags before we merged. The power of the engines, the violent shaking as I pull her to the edge of her envelope, is a blast. It has a great seat of the pants feel. It took several turns and loops and some missed shots, but I eventually knocked out his engines. This thing can dogfight. I floated my first landing and had to go around. I had read the cat likes to float in landing configuration, but it was more than expected. I brought her around slow and shallow waiting for gravity to kick in. When she gets real slow the feeling of mass sets in hard and fast. Brought her to a stop with plenty of runway. Then I took a moment to look around. We already knew how great she looks from the pics and videos, but it's worth saying again how visually stunning it is, inside and out. If this thing doesn't have you grinning from ear to ear, you're not doing it right! I need to go fly it again.

=Mac= Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 (edited) Brought her in at Anapa, lined up on the runway, dropped the gear and flaps, and (yeah) she floated a bit. Touched down nicely. Not sure if I set up the AoA because I didn't do anything except drop speed, gear and flaps. One problem: no NWS. Diff brakes were light but handled it. Went to adjustments, found the NWS definitely WAS mapped and then checked the keyboard map for it: "n". The NWS was still unresponsive. Is there something else besides landing that I need to do to get NWS? edit: just read that the nose gear strut needs to be extended. I didn't try that. (I will next time.) Edit 2: found the problem. When installed, the Saitek rudder pedals were mapped incorrectly. Remapped correctly and got not only the NWS, but rudders, too! :) Edited March 13, 2019 by =Mac= The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...
