Borchi, I was thinking about the fact whether you plan to animate the J58s engine inlets or not.

If yes then here is a copy from one of my books, how it works on the real Blackbird (->the Mach 3 yaw section)

Hope it helped

Hello

The last pics of nesher are from the AA-12 onboard the carrier-museum Intrepid in NYC.

(me too ;))

I just don't know if there is any difference between AA-12 and SR-71 gears...:book:

but I'll search my archives to see if I kept some others of this plane in HiRes.

Cheers,

hey guys thanks alot so far, i guess there might be some more that you will post.

everything you can find that shows some detail of gears or anything else will help.

right now the bird has 10000 polys, so there is enough space for some details too.

i hope the pilots will not have to many polys in the end though

little update,

got the wings fixed and also got the gearboxes done in addition with the front and rear geardoors.

so now the nozzles are next together with the gear.

only the pilot is left then.

i figured out that when you go full throttle with the BB that it has flaps the suck additional air into the fan, which are lokated a the front of the engines.

do you guys want them too?

greetigs borchi

p.s.: i have not posted any pictures cause nothing of a great visual effect has changed to much

maybe at the end of this week i get some nice once for you folks

I'm sure it would be welcomed but it's your model, and your decision.

So if you have the time and mood, then of course, I would be glad to see those additional 'flaps'.

well, i found pictures of the flaps where the BB only had a grill where the flaps where located on other models.

i would like to add the flaps instead cause it would be a cool lock when it opens on full throttle.

the problem was when i tested it, that the model itself had some damage when i created them so i have to figure a way to built it in a way that it works just fine maybe yeniceri or grandsurf can help out, have to see

now i will have to mke the nozzles and afterwords the gear

at the end the pilots and then chrink the model to th right size before i can export the model into 3d max 8 and make the animations to get the bird into the game for the first time

well thanks nesher for your pictures they will help alot. i hope you did not have to go to the carrier just for the fotos

:D

Sadly I didn't have to go there...

:D

Btw. if you need more photos of the BB or about it's specific parts tell it, and I'll try to help you.

Hope you'll be lucky finishing the model!

@SuperKungFu

You overtook me, man...:)

@Borchi

As I can see it on your screenies the J58 engine house is too short. It should strain longer at the half of the pink section (flaps). See SKFs shots especially that BB underview.

And some more high res. photos from DFRC, visible your 'requested area' :)(but not only;))>

@nesher,

first thanks for the pictures, i allready have some of them but not all, so it will add up to a big pile of pics.

the engine house is not done yet.

the nozzles are still missing so they lock to short

but thanks for the reminder of the fact that thes still have to be done, they are still on my to do list.

geardoors are done,

next will be the nozzles, the gear and the pilot

very nice choice for the F-15C as the next project. Don't be afraid to go high poly on that.

btw if rick can't explain it, other moders should know since the aircraft they built requires them to change the position of the afterburner, for example knell, kys1257 or you can talk to teka teka, THe boys who made the mirage aircraft as well the the F-18 mod, they should have an idea. Also, do a search over at lockonmodels, i believe i saw an answer there before (i could be wrong though)

hehe superkungfu,

my cousin flew the albino (f-15c) unfortunatly i cannot get any detail picture of his yet anymore, cause he is not an active pilot, to old now :-)

well, i will go high poly for that f-15, very high details, and so on, cause it is my personal favour, and i guess the sentence on top will explain.

but i guess the community will have to wait a while.

2008 is sure for a realise date :-)

with the words of ed, we do not know when but soon :-)

maybe i start with the first basics of the fuselage on the we or next week will see, cause i need to see something else instead of the BB all the time.

nothing against it, it is a nice project, but it is sooooo long.

i know the f-15 will take long too, but it is more usable then the BB.

ahh by the way, the BB was actually only thought to be a testproject, not more, in advance to a B-2 spirit, that could replace the f-117

ok guys, little update for the black beauty :-)

first i have to thank superkungfu and nesher and all the others for the pictures.

keep up the information flow, it helps for sure :-)

i hope you like it.

it is not done yet but it will soon,

i will not model everything of the gear cause in the end it will kill the fps so i only make the most important

hope you guys are not disappointed ;-)

well it's looking pretty good with the amount of detail you got on it right now...

i have already managed to put all the wires on the front gear, so only the wheels are left, then i can go and start with the rear gear or i will make them before making any wheels.

thats how they do it in real life too:-)

next pictures will come probably next week :-)

and how predicted, the gear is taking a lot of polys.

with the detail i have added after putting the pictures in the forum, the bird has about 12200 polys, and i know that in the end, without pilots, i will end up at 18000 to 20000 polys, so thats how the cuckie crumbles
