brewber19 Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 I have made a mission to attack an airfield and the problem we've had is that in both the 25T AND the 25, if you try to ground-stabilise/lock a target at the airfield or a big cluster of vehciles nearby, the tv pod/laser refuses to lock. However, just "outside" of the airfield and group of vehicles, or single vehicles outside of those localities, the laser designation/lock works as advertised. All six 504 pilots experienced the same problem. Anyone got any ideas or recollection of why the functionality of laser lock/ground stabilising is adversely affected like this? Have I accidentally set a setting I shouldn't have...or unset something I shouldnt have? Thanks in advance for any help. I've recently installed LO:FC so, it shouldnt be affected by "mods" and stuff. I can post a track if required. Brew. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 487th Helicopter Attack Regiment, of the VVS504 Red Hammers
Ironhand Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 There is one air base in the Caucasus that's on the coast (I'm at work right now and can't check the name) where this is a problem. If that is where you are at, then it's a bug with that base and nothing can be done, AFAIK. On and around that base, no ground lock of any sort can be achieved. The same is true there with the A-10 and Mavericks, for instance. Ramstein Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 what a coincidence! I ahve been working on similar missions for practice using the Su25t and laser guided and camer guided missles. it appears you need to stablize the aircraft using 'alt-1' keys. It also appears if you are steady enough with your stick, you may not need to stabilize it for it to lock. In any case.. even though I have flown LockOn since the Demo,, I am stil learning as I very seldom used some of these planes and missions... The training LockOn xomes with makes these missions look so easy... but if you try them.. or stop the training and take control. it's very hard... :joystick: ASUS Strix Z790-H, i9-13900, WartHog HOTAS and MFG Crosswind G.Skill 64 GB Ram, 2TB SSD EVGA Nvidia RTX 2080-TI (trying to hang on for a bit longer) 55" Sony OLED TV, Oculus VR

Ironhand Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Hi Ironhand, The airfield is Novorosisk (or however its spelt), is that the bugged airfield? That sounds right. I believe it's next in line down the coast from Anapa. If you are taking off (with no wind) you will have water behind you, on your right, and in front of you. There's a hill to your left and a city in your left front quadrant. Unfortunately I'm at work and can't fire up the sim to check the name. brewber19 Posted August 13, 2007 Author Posted August 13, 2007 Hi Ironhand That sounds like the one! How strange. Oh well, there were some nice possibilities there for a mission, nice outlying hills as cover from SAMs, city buildings as protection for a (very) low egress etc. Thanks muchly for prompt and spot on reply, rep inbound. brewber19 Posted August 13, 2007 Author Posted August 13, 2007 Hi Ramstein, Thanks for the reply. I think Ironhand got it spot on, will do some testing just to be sure. If you're dipping your toe in the water with the Frogs, do persist, its worth it. The stock missions/campaigns that come with FC are pretty straightforward...now! When it first came out they were challenging but having flown the Frog for 2 years or more, its now a bigger challenge to make an entertaining mission for the squad without it being ridiculous (like several Hawks/Patriots etc etc). Thanks for the input though, and keep at it with the Frogs, they're very rewarding when you can use them right ;) Brew what a coincidence! Ramstein Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 If you overload the Frog with too many weapons, it's horrible in flight... my guess is, I am horrible with being quick enough to setup my weapons and launch in time.. my fingers shake and fumble and I lose precious time getting everything set. The laser gusided are the most time consuming,, you must have really good hand finger control and eye coordination. Note, I also set my Hotas mouse speed lower to slow it down, to help in being more precise when I am moving the cursor around with the ministick.. :joystick: ASUS Strix Z790-H, i9-13900, WartHog HOTAS and MFG Crosswind G.Skill 64 GB Ram, 2TB SSD EVGA Nvidia RTX 2080-TI (trying to hang on for a bit longer) 55" Sony OLED TV, Oculus VR
brewber19 Posted August 13, 2007 Author Posted August 13, 2007 LOL, yeah, she's a bitch when fully loaded, the T is worst of course. I know exactly what you mean re: fumbling/"fat" fingers when under pressure, but I have a tip for you....:) In the Su-25 (plain "vanilla" frog) I don't move the laser pipper over the target and try to lock it "spot on", I actually prefer to move the pipper to the bottom of the HUD glass (ok, we'll call it a HUD anyways) and then I actually steer the a/c about (really small movements) until the pipper kinda crosses over the target, and then I "lock it"...that way I just need to press one button to ground stabilise the pipper rather than fanny about moving the cursor and locking it. Its a similar technique used in rifle shooting...you don't try to maintain a perfect aim on target with the gunsight, you work to keep it steady enough so when the sight passes "through" the target you pull the trigger...with a small rate of "pass through" and a gentle trigger pull, you'll get a good shot. I use the same technique in field archery ;) In the Su-25T I use a different technique to quickly "lock" a target, which is to turn the TV pod on, get the cursor close enough to the target, then I zoom in one setting and move it closer...cos the higher the zoom magnification the more "sensitive" (less-wild movements) the cursor does. I find with practice I can easily lock a target with 3-5 seconds of identifying it (when I say "ID" what I really mean is...thats the "thing" I'm gonna fire on! Whether its friend or foe is a question for the debrief screen ;)). The further away I am from the target dictates which zoom level I use to better control the sometimes odd nature of the pipper speed. Anyways, thats how I do it, hope it helps or gives you something to try. I'm happy to post a track of the technique I use in the vanilla if needed. Brew. Ramstein Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Yeah,, I try that too, the problem is time is a wasting,, while I am fumbling, then zoom, I pass the target and have to start all over again... not much can be done but practice... like I said I changed my cursor speed in the file: view.lua was: CockpitMouse = true CockpitMouseSpeedSlow = 1.0 CockpitMouseSpeedNormal = 10.0 CockpitMouseSpeedFast = 20.0 ==== Is: CockpitMouse = true CockpitMouseSpeedSlow = 1.0 CockpitMouseSpeedNormal = 6.0 CockpitMouseSpeedFast = 20.0 seems to help a bit,, I might try lower speeds.. I hope this is the right file to work on.. NotiA10 Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 try coming in from the south  she should lock. there was one mission on the 504 server with targets at gelenzik (a couple of strelas, tanks and bmps) and we had to had to come in from the south all the time in order to get the lock. let me know if it worked. cheers :pilotfly: S77th-NotiA10 :pilotfly: NotiA10 CoolerMaster HAF RC-932 - Intel Core i7 950 - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R - Kingston DDR3 6GB - Gigabyte Radeon HD 5870 EF 6 Edition - Western Digital 640GB SATA-III - CoolerMaster 700W - TrackIR Pro 4 - Saitek X52 - Saitek Rudder Pedals - Hotas Warthog
Ramstein Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 If you guys would like, maybe we could get together and do some laser Su25 (t) missle missions together online? Or share some misison files? :joystick: BTW, I really like the training missions (that came with the game), but what I hate is when they start on the ground,, I like my training when it starts close to the target/objective.. BTW, I now remember i have some addon training missions someone created,, I have to look to see where I put those.. and see what missions are included in those..
