SolentSkipper Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 Hi All, Apologies for being a newbie but I am having problems with chaff and flares. I have default E and D for countermeasures and even designated joystick and throttle stick buttons but nothing seems to make flares and chaff come out of the aircraft - apologies for being clueless but I have tried everything including custom loads for weapons and yet nothing. I have used external view (F2) - hit the designated buttons and nothing - sorry but am at a loss now... Master Arm is on and bypass selected to avoid all that programming malarkey (older new user so keeping it simple for now) and still no joy..? I have been told that chaff and flares are available by default but can't get them to fire if they are...I can't find an ALE47 pod for love or money even setting up weapons load manually and as such, on any mission or campaign and even training, no chaff or flares. Again apologies for being a newbie but if someone could advise or help that would be very much appreciated. A step by step walkthrough on any F18 instant action mission or campaign (Caucasas) to show me how to get them working would be welcomed. Thanks folks, G...

SolentSkipper Posted March 18, 2019 Author Posted March 18, 2019 can you screen shot your designation under control options so I can mirro what you have set please
enigma6584 Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 Besides what you have already mentioned doing, you need to turn on the dispenser from one of your digital display screens. From Chuck Owl's Guide to the FA-18C, Pages 160-162. 1. Set Master Arm Switch – ON 2. In the TAC menu, select the EW (Electronic Warfare)page 3. Set DISPENSER switch – ON (MIDDLE) 4. ALE-47 status will perform a series of built-in tests by going to SF TEST (Self-Test), then PBIT GO, then to STBY. 5. Once ALE-47 status is set to STBY, click on the OSB above ALE-47 to select the countermeasuredispenser. ALE-47 will be boxed in green. 6. Click the OSB next to MODE to select desired dispenser mode (MAN1 (Manual), S/A (Semi-Automatic), AUTO, STBY). We will choose MAN1. Hope this helps.
rob10 Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 Besides what you have already mentioned doing, you need to turn on the dispenser from one of your digital display screens. But if you're in bypass mode this shouldn't matter I don't think?
noisy_lightning Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 But if you're in bypass mode this shouldn't matter I don't think?Agreed. I fly 99% of the time in bypass and never turn it on. No problems with dispensing manually. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
EAF602 Red Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 Master Arm.. this has caught me out a few times Red
enigma6584 Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 But if you're in bypass mode this shouldn't matter I don't think? I believe you are correct. However I also believe you don't get the flexibility of the type of program of Chaff and Flare dispensing you get with running system at full potential. The problem is (And I don't know if this is a bug or actually done this way in real life) but you cannot program the system while on the ground. Tried it the other day and no go. Got up in the air and I could program the system as I wanted.
P.Carrasco =Keep Flying= Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 (edited) I always fly with DISPENSER switch - ON (MIDDLE) and program it to shoot 2 chaffs and 2 flares in a range of 0.5 or 0.25 seconds with each dispense , so I am unconcerned if the enemy sent me a radar or infrared missile, remembering that to program the airplane has to be flying. Sometimes I forget and it.It's on stand by, only when someone fires a missile at me that I remember hehehehe! I know that without warning is an infra red missile and with warning is a missile radar, but as I no longer have free buttons on my X52, I put this program in a single click. = P.Carrasco | Keep Flying | = See you in the skies!
