jross194 Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 Spend some time practicing and noticing the sound and feel at different AOA. Fly various maneuvers looking over your shoulder, keeping your head out, only glancing at the AOA and ASI. Try some basic loops at Mil at different entry speeds with a 4-5 G pull to a 15 unit pull over the top. See how slow you can enter and still get it over the top. Then do it using burner. The rest is in the Handling tips. Practice finess, you can't just put your feet on the instrument panel and pull with both hands. I thought you Ready Room hero's knew out to fly? ;) ^^^^ Love it. Been spending more time than I should admit doing just that. Guess I'm on the right track. AND... I've wanted to build my own centrifuge so I can get some _feel_ here (littering the desert/ocean with my wings is getting Green Peace P-O'd). Since that's not going to fit in my closet (mini-office): I just installed the ButtKicker 2 and SimShaker Aviators (beta that supports the F-14). Since the first flight (in VR) A process to get it setup & working each time but I'm getting better at feeling how many G's I'm at and, with the stall/buffet setting, what my AOA is - as I look over the back of my chair. I ain't real but it is physical feedback. The other goodies (gear/tarmac/flap) 'thunking' is cool but the G & Buffet settings are a great bang-for-the buck solution IMO. Don't know why this piece of kit, or 'haptic feedback'? Isn't more popular. Especially in VR. NOTE: There's also a Jetseat thingy (pad you sit on) that's supposedly even more gooder but not tried that yet. Keep practicing i6700k 4.4mhz, 32Gb, nVidia 1080, Odyssey+, CH Products, Derek Speare Designs button box, Bass shaker w/SimShaker For Aviators
jross194 Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 Can’t speak to the sim, but i found the Tomcat performed best in a 1 circle fight (or, I flew the 14 best in a 1 circle fight), so I pushed it there. The key is to think of it as down range travel, and the first to get there loses. So, when transitioning to 1-circle, get your nose away from down range, and remember altitude is your friend. It takes time to develop recognition, but you have to develop an awareness for when to perform and energy depleting pull, and when to perform an energy efficient pull. When in doubt, put your lift vector on them and pull. Collapse the distance, unless you find yourself defensive and are trying to create angles to bug. Learn to fly and control the aircraft at it minimum controllable speed without tipping over the edge. It’s better to be a few knits fast and to keep turning, than it is to get too slow and have to dump the nose to get knots back. Try it out, and post specific questions. Mostly just practice. ^^^^ I sense a theme here i6700k 4.4mhz, 32Gb, nVidia 1080, Odyssey+, CH Products, Derek Speare Designs button box, Bass shaker w/SimShaker For Aviators

ClearDark Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 After running several online sessions vs a human player doing purely F14 vs F14's, here are my 2 cents regarding BFM in WVR with the Tomcat (Guns only observation, only WVR, no BVR) a) Spend more time in it, the Tomcat is a module that needs YOU, the pilot, to develop a "feel" for it, the Tomcat has very unique behavior coupled with immense power, only stick time can teach you that "feel" b) The 15 AOA full burner theory works WONDERS against AI's in DCS, but is completely useless versus any half brained human opponent. Against a decent human pilot, its all about walking the thin line of stall and who can keep it slower yet maneuverable enough to keep it floating. c) The F-14 has TONNES of power, literally. but there is a slight delay between your throttle input up until the engines "execute" your command. This requires alot of practice because you have to "think ahead" when to reduce or increase your throttles...In a turn n burn this might take place several times a minute. d) Snap shotting is not nice to have, its a MUST skill to have to be a successful F-14 pilot. Most of my successful shots involved quiet a lengthy "line up" and then forced to pull the stick out of the planes comfort zone (20 AoA + for a short time) to pull a successful shot. Takes alot of practice. e) The Tomcat devours angles when turning in its optimal corner speed (around 370kts), but requires a very delicate and disciplined hands to maintain its agility. Hope this helps :)

Hope this helps :) F-14B vs F-14B, this is all good stuff. Hornet vs Hornet, I typically devour the other guys in my server (there are only 4 of us and we know each other’s skill levels quite well). Putting them in the Hornet and me in the F14, I can’t touch them. I can beat pretty much any AI aircraft, but against even half decent human players in the Hornet, the Tomcat really seems to be at a disadvantage WVR. I expected the Tomcat to own the 2 circle rate fight against a Hornet, but surprisingly not - holding 350kts in a 2 circle, the hornet slowly gained angles. After a few turns, I try to bug out and use the tomcats speed, but it’s not quite fast enough to outrun the 9X :pilotfly: More practice and time may help, but we are fairly mismatched in skill and I still get my butt kicked :) Ryzen 7 5800X3D / Asus Crosshair VI Hero X370 / Corsair H110i / Sapphire Nitro+ 6800XT / 32Gb G.Skill TridentZ 3200 / Samsung 980 Pro M.2 / Virpil Warbrd base + VFX and TM grips / Virpil CM3 Throttle / Saitek Pro Combat pedals / Reverb G2
